Finding your special person is no easy feat. And even when you do think you’ve found him or her, how can you be sure this is it? Here, real women share the moment they knew they found the one. At the risk of sounding too much like an ad for a rom-com, get ready to laugh, cry, and believe in love again.

“The first year of our relationship we were long-distance and that involved a lot of texting. We hadn’t even been on our first official date yet, but I sent him a news story about a new space shuttle that could take us to Mars — we’re both huge nerds. He told me he also had read the same story and couldn’t believe I read it, too. We nerded out in our text chain for a while, and I thought to myself, ‘Wow, I’ve never connected with anyone like this before.’ We could talk about anything, and I could spend a lifetime talking to him and never lose interest.”

“Before I even knew him, I saw a picture of him on Facebook where he was actually with another woman. I told my friend that when that they broke up, I was going to marry that man. Without a single doubt in my mind I knew that he was the person I was going to spend the rest my life with. Before meeting him, I would always find flaws in the men that I’ve dated — the tiniest little things would annoy me or turn me off, and I would find a reason to break off the relationship. When I met him — though he has flaws — nothing ever seemed to bother me about him. He is truly one of the most amazing, supportive, and loving men in this world, and I am so unbelievably lucky that he is mine.”

“It wasn’t a moment, per se, but I knew he was the one pretty early on. It was just so easy and fun to be by his side. He always made me feel safe, even through hurricanes and near-death situations abroad. We share the same passions, and it also helps that he is as crazy about pasta as I am.”

“After a few weeks of dating, I was talking to my mom on the phone, telling her about a boy I was dating, and she asked what about him I liked. I simply replied, ‘He just gets me, nothing I say or do seems to faze him.’ The rest was history!”

“I knew he was the one after I couldn’t possibly imagine life without him.”

“Meeting him was like meeting some I always knew I was meant to be with. Nothing about us being a new couple was weird, including introducing him to friends and family. I never had that ‘everyone’s meeting my new boyfriend, OMG’ feeling. I just felt like I’d been waiting for him to show up and now he was finally here.”

“I met my husband when I was living in Chicago and he was in town for business. I crashed his conference after-party and had to talk to him because I thought he looked like Stephen Colletti from Laguna Beach. He went back to California, and I found myself opting to chat with him rather than continuing to go on dates in Chicago.”

“He was hilarious and always let me have the last slice of pizza, which, as a pizza-obsessed individual, is of utmost importance. Oh, and he made plans with me six months out so that I didn’t worry that he’d ghost me.”

“After we met, we spent hours talking on the phone. She listened as I rambled on about my dreams, both big and small, and before we would realize, hours had passed. We spent many nights after first meeting talking until morning. I felt like I could let my guard down and tell her anything and everything. I knew then that I never wanted to go long periods of time without talking to her.”

“I could talk to him about anything. We’d talk for hours and hours on the phone and he made me feel safe. And then he took me to a lobster restaurant — even though he had never eaten a lobster that he had to shell — because he knew I would like it.”

“We met in first grade, and I thought he was so dreamy. He transferred schools at the end of the year, and we didn’t see each other again until the first day of the freshman year of college. I walked into the room of someone I knew and there he was. We have been together ever since. My parents have been together since they were 14 and 16, and I always wanted a love story like theirs. I got mine the second I saw him again. It was love at first sight. He was just as dreamy then — and still is — as he was way back in first grade.”

“While I knew earlier in our relationship, what really solidified it was the proposal. Right before he proposed, I was talking about how badly I needed to go to the bathroom — we were traveling overseas, and hey, stomach issues. Still, even my talking about how I was about to s*** my brains out wasn’t enough to deter him from his romantic plans.”
