Why You Should Be Using Dry Shampoo Before Bed

Dry shampoo is an innovative product that causes oily hair to look freshly washed. It's made out of alcohol or starch in either an aerosol spray bottle or as a loose powder. Sometimes they are also tinted to look more natural in darker hair colors. Dermatologist Wilma Bergfeld, M.D., explained to Cleveland Clinic that dry shampoo works because the "alcohol or starch in the product soaks up the excess oil and grease in your hair, giving it a cleaner, fresher appearance."  But while this may leave the hair looking fresh, it isn't actually clean. Dry shampoo is a quick fix to delay washing the scalp with wet shampoo that will remove any dirt and oil.

It's safe to use dry shampoo as long as it's not part of your daily routine. You should never use it for multiple days in a row. If you do, you risk damaging your scalp and reducing the rate at which your hair grows. With dry shampoo, the build-up in your hair continues to accumulate instead of being washed away. This can cause your scalp to be irritated and your hair to break. To use dry shampoo safely, don't use it frequently, and remember to wash your hair regularly. By using this product correctly, you won't have to use as much of it.

Leave it to absorb your oil

When you apply your dry shampoo, it makes a huge difference. For it to work to its full potential, you should use it before you go to bed. By using it at night, you're giving the dry shampoo enough time to work at absorbing any oil, grease, and sweat. After you see the results the following day, you'll never want to go back to applying it during the day.

Kaia Naturals explains that this product works best when you are proactive about applying it. Then it can absorb as the excess oil appears, so it doesn't have a chance to build up. To use dry shampoo this way, you need to estimate when your hair will look dirty. Otherwise, you'll wake up to greasy roots, and it'll be too late to use the product effectively since you need to brush it out in the morning instead of giving it a chance to absorb everything.

The best way to apply dry shampoo

Using dry shampoo at night is slightly different from how you would apply it in the morning. Of course, the first step is to brush out your hair. Then Pureology recommends holding an aerosol bottle of dry shampoo four to six inches away from your head when spraying the product. Loose powders, on the other hand, can be applied directly to your roots with a makeup brush. To prevent any of the adverse effects of dry shampoo, stick to the areas you know get the oiliest. This may be at the crown of your head or your hairline.

After you've applied the product, this is where your usual routine changes. Instead of rubbing it in and brushing it through, you skip these steps and go to bed. You can tie your hair back with a loose scrunchie if you like. The Teacher Diva explains that you should brush the product through your hair when you wake up. Then you can style it however you like. Adding oil to your ends can help tame any frizz, so your hair looks fresh and healthy.
