Demi Lovato got a dramatic hair makeover just in time for spring. The "Confident" singer cut off several inches of hair, sharing before-and-after photos that prove just how major the change was. The result? A super-sleek, face-framing bob.
"New hair, who dis?" she captioned a selfie. In addition to the cut, Lovato also went several shades darker, and her hair is now a uniformly dark-brown shade.
The new look is courtesy of hairstylist Amber Maynard Bolt of LA-based Nine Zero One Salon. "Demi has been feeling great and wanted something to represent that," Bolt said after the haircut. "She's been wearing extensions and growing her hair out for a while, so this was a nice change up."
The blunt bob has been dubbed by many hairstylists as a major trend for spring 2019. Lovato is joining the ranks of other famous women who have chopped off their hair this season, including Mandy Moore, Khloe Kardashian, and Kristen Bell.
Ashley Streicher, the stylist responsible for Moore's new 'do, told Allure that her clients are asking for "shorter and bolder" cuts. "I find that people are liking a heavier, more blunt look this spring," she said.
But the reasoning behind Lovato's hair makeover might be about more than just following a trend. In 2018, she suffered a life-threatening overdose after nearly seven years of sobriety. She opened up about her struggle via Instagram last month, saying that has no regrets because she "needed to make those mistakes."
She added that its never too late to start over, and that her prior years of sobriety are still a part of her journey. "Now I just get to add to that time with a new journey and time count," she said.
As the saying goes, a woman who cuts her hair is about to change her life. Whether or not Lovato is using her new hairstyle as a symbol of new beginnings in her sobriety, we're totally with her.
