Prepare for cuteness overload. Baby Archie has made his official royal tour debut, and the resulting photos are adorable. During their tour of Africa on Tuesday, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry introduced their son to Archbishop Desmond Tutu and his daughter Thandeka Tutu-Gxashe.
As photographers snapped photos and people gathered around him, almost 5-month-old Archie appeared to be all smiles, dressed in striped overalls, a white shirt, and white socks by H&M. What a bundle of joy!
The encounter was documented on their official Instagram account. “Arch meets Archie!” the royals wrote. In video clips from the meeting, the Archbishop is heard joking about Archie adjusting to the limelight, to which Markle responds, “He’s an old soul.” Prince Harry adds that he’s “used to it already.”
As soon as the photos and videos were posted to Instagram, fans immediately noticed how closely Archie resembles Prince Harry when he was around he same age, and it didn’t take long for media outlets to post comparison collages of the father and son. It’s clear from the resurfaced photos that as an infant, Prince Harry had the same cheeks, face shape, button nose, and hair as his son does now.
Those close to the royal family have said that although their shared features weren’t immediately apparent, Archie began to take after his dad around 2 months old, at the time of his christening. And as Archie started to make more public appearances over the summer, royal watchers began to notice even more similarities. Back in August, a source told People that the royal baby was growing “tufts of reddish hair.”
Still, Prince Harry has said baby Archie’s “looks are changing every single day,”
All cuteness aside, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex visited the Archbishop to learn more about his philanthropy. “The Archbishop, a globally respected figure in anti-apartheid movement, is one of the world’s great champions of equality, and has spent his life tirelessly battling injustice,” the royals wrote on Instagram. “Their Royal Highnesses have joined The Archbishop and Thandeka to learn more about the work of The Tutu and Leah Legacy Foundation, and see first-hand how they are focusing on global awareness of the critical issues affecting the world.”
This is their first official tour as a family, but certainly not the last. Markle is now stepping out for her first solo engagements of the trip, with Baby Archie by her side, before the family will reportedly reunite in Johannesburg early next week. Fingers crossed for more photos! In the meantime, check out more sweet moments from the royal family’s meeting with the Archbishop below.
