Social media has become breeding ground for mom-shaming, and Jessica Simpson is no stranger to its impact. A recent incident, however, seems to have the last straw. After the mother of three shared a photo of her four-month-old daughter Birdie Mae in her stroller, trolls did not hold back their opinions on her parenting skills, calling out their concerns for newborn’s safety.
The precious photo shows bright-eyed Birdie smiling happily in her stroller, wearing a cute pink outfit and matching headband. “This bird couldn’t be more adorable,” the 39-year-old wrote in the caption. Apparently mistaking the stroller in the photo for a car seat, commenters began calling out Simpson for not taking proper safety measures. Ugh.
“Straps on this car seat do not provide correct support,” one user wrote. Another added: “That hard buckle should be on her sternum instead of her belly to be optimally effective and not cause more harm if a car accident would happen (God forbid!).”
But as quickly as the trolls descended, Simpson’s defenders swooped in to point out their error. “People over here giving out car seat advice when it’s a DANG STROLLER 💀” one reply reads. “Well maybe you should look again and see it’s a stroller instead of mom shaming,” another clapped back.
Despite the many fans rushing to Simpsons defense, the singer-turned-entrepreneur still decided to disable the comments on her post. They’re back up and running now, but it’s understandable why Simpson would have needed a break from all the chaos. This certainly isn’t the first time she’s been the target of mom-shamers; last month, Simpson was attacked for allowing her seven-year-old daughter to dye the ends of her hair purple, and she has also been criticized for letting her try on lipstick at a department store.
