8 Top Trends from the 2014 CEW Product Demo
The cosmetics version of Comic Con is back and bigger than ever! Cosmetic Executive Women is celebrating its 20th anniversary, and the organization made the most of it during its product demo on Wednesday. Along with the rows upon rows of beauty brands sharing their latest innovations, CEW president Carlotta Jacobson curated items from the first product demo that have withstood the test of time to go on display during the festivities and even created a category for the iconic products. As always, Jacobson took some time to chat with a group of beauty editors about the biggest beauty trends from 2013. Here are her insights into what beauty buffs are snapping up:
Mask Appeal – Whether it was to brighten, clear your complexion, or add maximum moisture, masks and peels from the likes of Garnier, Grand Central Beauty, and La Prairie have seen a 66% spike in sales and has become the fastest way to healthy, radiant skin.
Be Gentle – With many reaching for heavy duty masks as of late, their daily cleansing routines have become much more sensitive with skin savants embracing oils and gentle cleansers from Julep, Neutrogena, and Shiseido to keep their skin clear.
Size Matters – Don’t let the Fall 2014 runways scare you; mascara isn’t going anywhere for now. In fact, makeup mavens are skipping the drama of lash extensions in favor of pumping up the volume with fan favorites from L’Oreal Paris, Maybelline, and CoverGirl.
All Eyes on Art – I’m sure we can pin this trend on Chanel’s Spring 2014 water color-inspired beauty look. Since then, brands like Marc Jacobs Beauty, Clinique, Em Michelle Phan have diversified their shadows to allow hints of tints, washes of color, and pops of pigment to ensure all eyes are on you.
CC Me – BB creams first became a beauty boom in 2012, but CC Cream is the new alphabet crème du jour. Per-fekt Beauty, Kate Somerville, and Dior have crafted creams that not only provides the same skin benefits as its predecessors but evens tone for a flawless finish.
Timeless Tresses – Anti-aging isn’t just for fighting wrinkles and sun damage anymore. Hair care brands like Nexxus, Dr. Dennis Gross, and Pantene spent 2013 crafting formulas to give you back the thick, strong, and lustrous strands of your youth.
Colorful Kisses – While lippies that had maximum moisture were a must last year, color has made a triumphant return. Revlon, Givenchy, and Urban Decay made strides to share lipsticks with loads of lasting power and punched up pigments in unexpected shades.
Expert Advice – More beauty buffs are doing their homework when it comes to prospective products. Many have sought credibility on tried and true formulas from doctors to industry insiders, including Goldfaden MD, 7*Days of Wonder, and Stemulation.
