A Day in the Life of Jewelry Designer Melissa Lovy

After toiling behind the scenes in the jewelry world, native New YorkerMelissa Lovy decided it was time to branch out and help women accessorize with her baubles! With one look at her creations, we're especially thankful that she did. Touching on delicate arm parties as opposed to overwhelming ones, Lovy provides a grown-up way to layer. Given her roots in the concrete jungle, Lovy immediately found inspiration in the New York City skyline then found structure in Frank Lloyd Wright's windows, thus naming her pieces after his different works by location. As she prepares for upcoming collections and shows, Lovy shared her daily schedule with Glam, proving perseverance is a must.

Rise and shine, scan my emails and read WWD.com while still in bed. First cup of coffee and then out the door to Central Park (rain or shine) for my reservoir walk. This is where I do most of my thinking and get inspiration; the skyline theme from my debut collection comes from my morning routine.

Shower and dress—I get dressed accessories first and build my outfit around that. Smoothie for breakfast and grab my second cup of coffee. I am a coffee nurser, this second cup usually lasts me a couple of hours, and I am off to the office.

I am in the office everyday no later than 8:30; to me there is nothing greater than having that early start to your day. I take this time to answer emails from the evening and plan out our Lovy Lady blog posts for my website (we usually allocate the blog and plan them for a week in advance).

Status update meeting in the office, this is the perfect time for me to go over daily responsibilities and convene on key components we need to work on. Today we discussed our wholesale accounts, sourcing, web orders and upcoming editor desk sides.

All production of our jewelry is done in-house, so we have daily sample and production meetings. Brainstorming on everything from fulfilling our current orders to creating samples for our new collection. We are working on a super exciting collaboration with an amazing charity for SS14 that we are really excited about!

Lunch, always order in. I go through phases; it’s either a salad or soup. I eat everyday with my assistant we go over upcoming meetings and calls. I also go through our social media at this time; I like to be very involved with it!

In anticipation for our upcoming trunk show at Henri Bendel (June 24-27th) we do an extensive inventory count and run through today. This helps us in planning for upcoming shows we have throughout the summer in Manhattan and the Hamptons. We also have our design meeting in the later afternoon for upcoming seasons, we are working on Holiday13 and SS14 currently. It is fun to see how the line and company are evolving especially with the incredible talent that I am lucky to work with.

Re-fuel with a dirty chai latte—the greatest coffee/tea lover invention, a chai latte with a shot of espresso.

Dinner every night with my husband, it is our time together. We both have such crazy days so we take the time to make sure to focus on each other (no phones, which means no instagram!) We started cooking together which is fun and romantic.

I love sketching and creating at home. It allows me to go beyond our ideas in the office and lets me introduce new inspirations and surroundings to the line. I respond to more emails, they seem endless and take the time to search for any press we received that day. It is so rewarding seeing other people in your designs!

Shower and begin to unwind with some of my favorite TV shows—either Scandal or Chicago Fire—I am always catching up on episodes I missed.

Lights out! I sleep on these amazing Egyptian cotton sateen sheets by Sferra, going to bed feels like what I imagine sleeping on a cloud is. I love going to bed with a new day and new opportunities approaching.
