Since their departure from namesake line Current/Elliott in 2012, Emily Current and Meritt Elliott have been working on another project. The denim duo is launching a new line called The Great, which consists of 130 pieces and will hit stores next spring. The surprise here is that the line won’t include so much as a stitch of denim due to a non-compete clause following their exodus from Current/Elliott. Instead, The Great will incorporate cotton tulle, lace and eyelet, silk twill, reverse satin, tropical wool, cashmere, alpaca and lambskin leather.
Of the line, Elliott said, “It has an ease of something boyish, but it has the softness of something feminine. That’s definitely our aesthetic in a nutshell. In this line, it’s the perfect balance.” Expect to see everything from trousers and button-downs to army pants and sweatshirts to skinnies and sweaters. The new moms are also assembling a girls’ collection called The Great Little that will share the same graphics with the women’s line. Of course, they’re not planning on stopping there—with past experiences designing with Kate Spade New York and PBTeen, Current and Elliott have plans to expand. “It’s a lifestyle brand that we want to grow,” Current said.
