Designers Celebrate the Dorchester Collection Fashion Prize
Last Wednesday evening we headed up Madison for an elegant cocktail party at The New York Palace to celebrate the 2011 Dorchester Collection Fashion Prize in North America. Upon entering the elegant Madison Room at Gilt we were greeted with 2010 Dorchester Prize winner Thomas Tait's Fall 2011 collection. Taits sleek silhouettes are both classic and modern with a sense of style and sophistication; it makes sense that he is also consulting on the staff uniform design at 45 Park Lane, which is the newest Dorchester hotel set to open this summer in London. Fittingly, guests were served Belvedere's special libation for the occasion–The Thomas Tait. Contest judges Thom Browne, Calvin Klein'sFrancisco Costa, Giovanna Battaglia, and Derek Blasberg were on hand for the festivities and it was also announced that Marchesa's Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig will join them in deciding this year's winner.
Fashion designers have up until May 31st to apply for this year's Dorchester Collection Fashion Prize, which is open to emerging ready-to-wear and premium accessories designers who are based in North America and have had an established business open for two years in the US or Canada. The winner will receive a $40,000 endowment to help grow their brand and will be able to debut their collection at the Hôtel Plaza Athénée, during Paris Fashion Week 2012.
