When Nicolas Ghesquière left Balenciaga after 16 years, the fashion set was left wondering why and what this would mean for the brand. On Monday, news broke of Ghesquière finally speaking out about his decision and today, we have our first look at Alexander Wang's vision for Balenciaga as its new designer. The fashion house has just released Wang's first campaign. Perfect timing, wouldn't you say?
Shot by Steven Klein, the campaign is simple but darker and moodier than previous ones we've seen. Wang told Women's Wear Daily that he went for a "very cinematic portrayal... with lots of emotion." We gather the emotion he means is illustrated with the model's hands tightly wrapped around a doorknob to peek in a doorway as her face isn't shown--interesting because the model featured is Kristen McMenamy. But the decision to keep her face out of view might be best to keep the focus on the clothing.
What do you think of Wang's first Balenciaga campaign?
