Since Rent the Runway’s launch in 2009, its mission has always been to create Cinderella moments for every woman's special occasion. You know those times: when you feel lighter than air and nothing can touch you, just because your outfit is that gorgeous. But RTR's demographic was much smaller... until now.
Launching today, the rental service has styles for plus size fashionistas, sizes 14-22, to rock at their special occasions as well! There are currently 40 looks from five top designers, including Badgley Mischka, Carmen Marc Valvo, and Theia, to choose from, thanks to the requests of their users and the brand’s commitment to showcase all different types of beauty.
“When we launched Rent the Runway, we didn’t fully understand that our business was going to be about so much more than saving money, but rather, feeling empowered,” Jennifer Hyman, CEO and Co-Founder of Rent the Runway, explained. “Every woman deserves to feel beautiful before the most important occasions in her life and every woman regardless of her size should have her choice of the designer dress that gives her the most self-confidence. We are so proud that our business has grown enough that we are finally able to make designer fashion not only accessible to, but also inclusive of, women of all shapes and sizes.”
I got to test drive the service last night, slipping into a radiant Carmen Marc Valvo and a sparkling Kay Unger. Even though I don’t have a special event any time soon, I still had my Cinderella moment, and now everyone can, too!
