Julianne Hough’s Met Ball Beauty Goes Punk With Bobby Pins and Falsies

Some celebs took the 2013 Met Ball's theme more seriously than others, and we have to give credit to Julianne Hough for being one of our red carpet punk favorites. Not only was her Topshop web-inspired distressed dress rock 'n roll ready, but her provocative beauty made a fierce statement too. Hough's fearless pompadour was accessorized with 100 black bobby pins that added extra edge to her pretty blonde hair. Along with her unique updo, spider-like false lashes helped create a dolly like face inspired by the cyberpunk visions of “A Clockwork Orange.” Learn how to do both her hair and makeup below!

Stylist Riawna Capri used products from Vidal Sassoon Pro Series to bring Hough's cool 'do to life. Here's how she did it! First, she prepped the entertainer's wet hair with Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Boost & Lift Foaming Air Mousse to create lots of volume and texture. Capri then spritzed Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Heat Protect & Shine Spray while blow drying with a round brush. When the hair was completely dry, she applied a small amount of Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Mega Firm Hold Gel to Hough's golden locks. Taking 1 inch sections, she made a smooth ponytail on the side of the head, which she then secured with a clear, plastic hair tie. Capri repeated this process until there were three ponytails on each side. Taking loose pieces of hair, she used black bobby pins and created a tight style. Finally, Capri took Hough's bangs and slightly twisted them while pulling back to create a vintage curl pompadour. She secured this twist at the back of the head by crossing black bobby pins and spraying Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Flexible Hold Hairspray. Once finished, she locked the style in place with the Extra Firm Hold Hairspray.

Once her hair was in a punk pompadour, celebrity makeup artist Molly Stern took over to create Hough's edgy beauty. Keeping everything super monochromatic in the tone of the actress's poreless complexion, Stern prepped the skin by massaging in Natura Bisse vitamin C cream and sparingly appying CoverGirl Clean Whipped Crème foundation. She then hollowed her cheeks using NARS Sophia Eyeshadow and popped some glow on the apples using CoverGirl Clean Glow Blush in Roses. For eyes, Stern covered the entire lid up to the brow bone with Laura Mercier Eye Basics in Tawny and then highlighted the brow bone with CoverGirl Flamed Out Shadow Pencil in Melted Caramel Flame. Then, she very softly winged Hough's eye shape using NARS Blondie Eyeshadow. For emphasized lashes, she loaded the top set with three coats of CoverGirl Flamed Out Mascara in Very Black Blaze. For the bottom lashes, she added four individual falsies and clumped them together. They were also coated with the mascara. For the finishing touch, Stern based Hough's pout with foundation and then added a hint of sheen using CoverGirl LipPerfection Jumbo Gloss Balm in Toffee Twist. Voila!
