Labor Day Libations to Salute the Summer Season


We just blinked, and it seems time has jumped to the unofficial end of the summer, Labor Day! The holiday weekend serves as the last hurrah for those looking for a quick vacay to recharge before the start of a new season and one last chance to hit the surf and sand before the boardwalks close. Before we delve into the spicy spirits synonymous with the fall, you can bet we’ll be kicking back with a refreshing cocktail or two filled with the fruity flavors reminiscent of an amazing summer spent well. Here are a few you can stir at your weekend soirees:

Earl of Paradise Punch

3 oz. Malibu
2 oz. apple juice
4 oz. chilled Earl Grey tea
1 oz. fresh lime juice
½ oz. simple syrup
Fresh raspberries

Muddle the raspberries with Gomme and then add the rest of the ingredients. Chill by stirring on ice and garnish with mint and citrus wheels.

The Rehydrator

1 oz. Ole Smoky Watermelon Moonshine
Watermelon Wedge

Build over a tumbler filled with ice and garnish with a watermelon wedge.

Peppered Peach Tea Collins

1 ½ oz. Bombay Sapphire Gin
¾ oz. Fresh Lemon Juice
½ oz. Simple Syrup
1 ½ oz. Peach Iced Tea
Pinch of Black Pepper
Club Soda

Build with ice in a Collins glass. Top with club soda, and garnish with a peach slide and lemon twist

Birds & The Bees

2 oz. Solbeso
½ oz. lemon juice
½ oz. honey syrup

Combine ingredients into a shaker filled with ice. Shake, strain into a chilled cocktail glass; garnish with a lemon peel twist.

Kahlúa Root Beer Float

2 oz. Kahlúa
3 oz. premium root beer
Vanilla ice cream optional

Build over ice. Stir and serve.

Sunshine Sipper

5 oz. Skinnygirl Pinot Grigio
2 oz. frozen lemonade
1 oz. soda water
Lemon twist for garnish

Blend ingredients with crushed ice and pour into a flute glass. Finish with soda water and garnish with a twist of lemon.

Boulevardier Swizzle by Naren Young

1 oz. Wild Turkey 101 Bourbon
1 oz. Cinzano Rosso
1 oz. Campari
3 dashes orange bitters

Build over crushed ice. Swizzle and add more crushed ice. Garnish with orange twist.

South of the Border by Lynnette Marrero

1 oz. Zacapa Rum 23
1/3 oz. Myers Dark Rum
1/3 oz. Orange Curaçao
2/3 oz. Perfect Puree Passion Fruit
1/3 oz. Fresh Lime Juice
1/3 oz. Orgeat Syrup
2 dashes Aromatic Bitters
Mint Sprig & Orange Slice for Garnish

Combine Zacapa Rum 23, Myers Dark Rum, orange cura��ao, perfect puree passion fruit, fresh lime juice, orgeat syrup and aromatic bitters into a cocktail shaker with ice and shake vigorously. Strain contents into a rocks glass over crushed ice. Garnish with mint sprig and orange slice.


2 oz. 2 Gingers Irish Whiskey
1 oz. sweet vermouth
1 oz. Campari liqueur

Combine ingredients in a mixing glass. Add ice and stir, then strain into a low-ball or rocks glass. Garnish with an orange twist.
