#LFW: Tons of Texture at John Rocha AW11
Born in Hong Kong, raised in Ireland, and inspired by Iceland, John Rocha's Fall 2011 collection was all about stark landscapes, structural shapes, and the masterful mishmash of textures—crocheted yarn mixed with lace; sheer silk paneling mingled with lambskin; alpaca met angora; sequins danced with leather; wool united with tweed.
While mostly comprised of ominous ravens, other less somber hues briefly took to the catwalk, like camel, cream, and crimson. Each look was more avant-garde than the last; roomy silhouettes with asymmetrical hemlines draped heavily on each model's frame, bringing to mind a child dressed in an adult's apparel. While certainly stylish, this collection is absolutely an acquired taste, as Rocha's edgy garb isn't for the faint of fashion heart.
