Everything old is new again, and Lipstick Queen is turning to old Hollywood royalty for its new range of luxe lipsticks.
Makeup mavens will go behind the brand’s new range called Velvet Rope, inspired by ‘40s film stars who believed “glamor was in every detail” down to the pigmented pout. Twenty years in the making, the formula for the new range delivers intense velvety color without weighing down your lips or drying them out. It’s all thanks to a new silicone elastomer, three types of waxes, vitamin E, apricot oil, and even mint oil for a fresh spin. “Mint is an action trigger,” founder Poppy King told Women’s Wear Daily. “The mint scent makes the wearer feel invigorated into whatever she has to get done that day/evening.”
Shades like Private Party, Brat Pack, Entourage, Black Tie, and Star System comprise the shades in the collection that range from nude to deep red. Each lipstick will be encased in gold, tapping into the golden age of Hollywood, and housed in blue velvet for a rock ‘n’ roll spin. “Hollywood glamor was at its peak in the Forties,” King explained. “It was a time when women were an equal presence on screen, and were there to be seen as well as heard. Each one of the female film stars in the Forties could match any man in terms of power and wit and look damn good doing it.”
We can already picture vintage vixens like Dita Von Teese and Liz Goldwyn loving the look and feel of the new lippies, but we can’t help but hear Lana del Rey’s cover of the Bobby Vinton classic when it comes to the packaging.
