Lupita Nyong’o is Lancôme’s Latest Leading Lady

We knew Lupita Nyong'owould land something big to follow her amazing Oscar win, and she did just that by inking a deal with Lancôme!

While we won’t know what products she fronts until the summer, Nyong’o will step in front of Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott’s camera to join the likes of Julia Roberts, Kate Winslet, Penélope Cruz, and Lily Collins. “I am truly honored to join the Maison Lancôme, a brand with such a prestigious history that I have always loved,” Nyong'o declared in a statement. “I am particularly proud to represent its unique vision for women and the idea that beauty should not be dictated, but should instead be an expression of a woman's freedom to be herself.”

The Lancôme deal comes after her awards season sweep, not only snapping up a Screen Actor’s Guild Award, Independent Spirit Award, NAACP Award, but also topping best dressed lists along the way in a rainbow of gowns that became meme worthy. But let’s not forget the selling power the 12 Years a Slave actress showed when her Clarins lip balm became every beauty buff’s must-have item for the season by dropping it into Pharrell’s hat on Oscar night.

It's easy to say that the star is still in a daze after her Academy Award win. “It doesn’t feel real,” she told Women’s Wear Daily. “I couldn’t believe I was climbing up the very same stairs that Jennifer Lawrence was climbing. It’s still very surreal. It’s changed a lot — more people know who I am, for example, and I’m sure it’s bound to change [other] things.”

Nyong’o isn’t content to stick to dramas, as she wants to tackle other film genes, direct her own projects, and even do some stage work as well. “I want to have a diverse career,” she told the trade. “I’m interested in action and fantasy; I’d love to do animation. That would be fun. Comedy, believe it or not. Thrillers. That’s an actor’s dream: To have a diverse career that asks me to go into scary new places within myself. I do well when I step into things I know nothing about. I thrive when I come from a place [like that].”

We’re already antsy to see the ads as well as whatever new project she’ll have up her sleeve soon. Congrats, Lupita!
