Met Gala 2014: Get Lupita Nyong’o’s Gatsby Glitz
In lieu of snagging Charles James’ signature silhouettes, Lupita Nyong’odelved into the decade he rose to prominence in a surprising and sparkling flapper dress crafted by Prada (who also designed the costumes from The Great Gatsby). Ted Gibson, Deborah Lippmann, and Nick Barose ensured she sparkled from head to toe, and here’s how you can get the look for yourself:
Nyong’o didn’t need a feather in her Cartier headpiece, as Gibson was inspired to create a French Roll in her tresses after tinting them purple to complement the green in her gown. He applied his signature Tame It Shine Lotion to her tresses before adding a few extensions in for her French Roll, connecting them with his Fix It Gel and Beautiful Hold Hairspray. He finished the look with an extra spritz of hairspray.
Brose complement her purple strands with a pop of the jewel on her lids, using Lancôme’s Color Design Eye Shadow in Miss Sweetheart over the brand Aquatique Waterproof Eyecolor Base. He finished the eye look by filling in the brows and adding a few coats of the Hypnôse Mascara in Black. For the rest of her face, he first nourished her enviable skin with the Advanced Génifique Youth Activating Concentrate before applying the La Base Pro Perfecting Makeup Primer and Teint Idole Ultra 24H Foundation. He dusted a bit of powder before sculpting her cheekbones with a combination of Armani’s Meastro Blush 300 and Cheek Fabric 509. For her plush pout, he lined the lips with Le Lipstique Lip Colouring Stick in Sheer Chocolate, topping it with L’Absolu Rouge Lipcolor in Bordeaux.
Lippmann customized a color befitting her gown and pops of purple by combining the colors on her nails for a modern effect. With a layer of Billionaire and Whatever Lola Wants, she topped Nyong’o’s tips and toes with a shiny topcoat.
