Clearly, we're going to need to make some room in our closets for new handbags. While Christopher Kane is quietly musing the possibility of moving into leather goods, Margherita Missoni is making a solid statement on her new plans for Missoni.
As it turns out, the mom-to-be is officially launching the first line of Missoni handbags in May, designed entirely in-house! “The most recognizable, iconic elements of Missoni are colors and knitwear,” said Margherita. “But those are not elements that could make a consistent handbag collection, and we wanted to create bags that would be able to stand on their own."
Her first creations include leather and suede totes, satchels, and slouchy square handbags in black, tan, as well as the house’s signature rust. While many may question how the Missoni brand plans to launch a line of handbags without the signature knitwear aspect, it seems the lady of the house is one step ahead of you. “For the summer, we’ll bring back some more Missoni colors, and we’ll start to introduce more fabric where it makes sense,” she said.
Additionally, you'll notice that ubiquitous zigzag pattern translates to the handbags! Margherita's grandfather sketched the design, which will be featured in every handbag’s jacquard lining, and subtle zigzag elements will be added in hardware details when possible.
The Missoni handbags will range from $1,760 to $5,890 and will hit stores in mid May.
