Style Setters: Beauty Insider, Sarah Lucero

Stila's celebrity makeup artist extraordinaire, Sarah Lucero, has worked with countless recognizable faces – from the models for the Spring 2013 Elizabeth and James presentation to celebrities including Hilary Swank, Victoria Beckham, Katherine Heigl, and Brooke Shields. Amidst her hectic Fashion Week schedule, Sarah makes time to update her followers with backstage snaps, pics alongside friend and fellow beauty influencer Ken Paves, and makeup tips and tricks. Her advice is incomparable, so we snagged her for a few must-have products and her beauty regime!

What 5 products are always in your makeup case during Fashion Week?

My top 5 products in my fashion week kit are: Beauty Blender, Stila Stay All Day Foundation & Concealer (it has EVERYTHING I need for ANY complexion look on every single skin type and tone-plus it does not weigh down my kit!), Stila Convertible Color, Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream, Kevyn Aucoin Eyelash Curler, and scotch tape (always good to have this on hand if I need to remove any glitter on a models face from another show…it lifts off the glitter particle gently).

In my personal makeup bag I always have Stila's Convertible Color in shade “Peony,” Black mascara, and Anastasia tinted brow gel in espresso. I like to use a tinted moisturizer with a bit of color-I wear Stila Sheer Color Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20 in shade “Warm” everyday. I can touch up during the day in a car or taxi very quickly by layering on a second layer of this and it instantly makes me look like I've had 9 hours of sleep. And we all know I did not get that much sleep during fashion week!

Where do you get beautified? Nails? Waxing? Massages?

“I love to set a day aside to glam myself up before fashion week-it’s a must since I’m constantly doing media press interviews and on camera. I always try to get plenty of sleep a few days before I get into fashion week-this keeps me focused. I also like to detox (eating healthy) and making sure I get in a nice long hike at Griffith Park near my house, it clears my head and keeps me calm. I LOVE the Tao of Wellness in Santa Monica for massages and acupuncture. I try and go once or twice a month. They keep me healthy and happy! I take herbs and drink the teas from there…it makes me feel so great and gives me good energy.

I like going to Chocolate Sun and getting an organic spray tan before fashion week. It just gives me a bit of a healthy glow all over and allows me to wear less makeup on myself…I barely have a moment to myself during fashion week so I just feel like I look better with a bit of a tan. I love to shop before, during, and after fashion week-who doesn’t? I splurge and treat myself to anything at Isabel Marant. I make a special trip to her Soho boutique each season. I’m obsessed with her boots and anything she makes with fringe on it I have to have!! I always shop with Folami who works in the Soho store and she always helps me pick out the perfect pieces to add to my wardrobe and fringe collection! I LOVE her!

What is the first beauty treatment you'll enjoy post Fashion Week?

MY first beauty treatment post fashion week will be a massage. I’m sure I will be in desperate need of a manicure after all the shows…so that may be first on my list. I sign up for the monthly memberships around town at the massage places-and I always forget to go and use my massage credits so I think I will cash in a few of those and just spend the entire day at the spa! I like to just chill out and read magazines in the “quiet” room and drink the tea…it lets me escape the day in a very relaxing way.

Please explain your nightly beauty regimen after a full day of shows and makeup.

My nightly beauty routine always starts with me removing my makeup with Dr. Lancer Exfoliating Cleanser. It’s the most amazing face wash I've ever used and it removes everything easily and gently. It helps me from getting breakouts from travel and going from one climate to another. Then I use Aesop eye serum around my eyes. I’ve been testing a new sample of Stila’s skincare line and it is a conditioning toner-I love the spa smell and refreshing feeling I get from it. I pour a small amount into my palms and press the toner into my skin and neck (it is an amazing product for prepping makeup on the models backstage. I've used it on a few models and they always say to me “wait what was that? I LOVE it”!! I use Strivectin moisturizer for sensitive skin/oil-free and I’m obsessed with how it has helped my skin look. The texture is so smooth and has a great glow all day long!! Then I brush my teeth with my Sonicare toothbrush-I have a travel sonicare I pack with me on the road. It’s the best toothbrush-and after a day of espresso’s I want to remove any potential coffee stains…I love espresso during fashion week-it’s a must!
