McDonald’s-Inspired Makeup Is Trending — And Ba Da Ba Ba Bah, We’re Loving It!
August 3, 2018
This week, McDonald’s is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its beloved Big Mac. And while everyone is heading to the burger joint in hopes of getting their hands on a MacCoin, which can be traded in for a free Big Mac, celebrity makeup artist Katie Jane Hughes is celebrating in a far more creative way. She recently shared a makeup look inspired by the fast food chain, with colorways meant to resemble its famous arch. (Fun fact: restaurants often use this color combination for its psychological effect — red is thought to trigger appetite and hunger while yellow evokes happiness.)

“Just out here waiting for @mcdonalds to sponsor me!” Hughes wrote on Instagram. “All jokes aside I do feel pretty great in this makeup.” We have to agree. She looks stunning, and the unexpected color combination is surprisingly pretty. The mustard-inspired shadow makes her blue eyes pop and the ketchup-red lip is striking against her fair complexion.
“One of my favorite things to do with makeup is match colors that don’t obviously go together,” Hughes told POPSUGAR. “I really love putting pink and red together, as blush and eye shadow.” Apparently, she was inspired to add yellow to the mix after seeing the shade worn as blush.
To create the look, Hughes started by prepping her skin with Neal’s Yard Remedies Wild Rose Beauty Balm before applying Nars Laguna Bronzer Liquid ($40) and By Terry Nude-Expert Duo Stick Foundation ($48) for allover radiance. For the mustard eyes, she used Danessa Myricks ColorFix in Primary Yellow ($18) with a touch of bright white to blend it out. She then coated lashes with Hourglass Cosmetics Caution Extreme Lash Mascara ($29) and brows with Ardell Stroke Brow Feathering Pen ($10).
For the ketchup-inspired lip, Hughes used Nars Powermatte Lip Pigment in Light My Fire ($26) and Zoeva Cosmetics Pure Matte Lips In Courtesy Call ($13) to shade the outer corners. She topped off the look with Flower Beauty Galactic Glow ($17).
When she finished, Hughes shared her look with a friend, who claimed it had “Big Mac Energy” (clearly inspired by the concept of BDE), and a hashtag was born. Women from all over have since been sharing their #bigmacenergy on social media. Check out more McDonald’s-inspired makeup below.
