Hairstylists Share The Best New Products That Help Hair, Brows, And Lashes Grow Faster
August 21, 2018
If you’re constantly Googling tips and tricks to get your hair to grow longer, thicker, and generally healthier, you’re in good company. According to a recent study by HairRx, most of us are unhappy with the current state of our strands. As we age, our hair tends to become thinner, less dense, and slow growing, which explains these frustrations. “While some individuals are more genetically predisposed to severe thinning, it’s commonplace with everyone beginning around 30 years old,” says Justin E. Rome, MD, founder and Chief Medical Officer of the Barber Surgeons Guild. “With modern science, we can now create products for hair, eyebrows, lashes, and even beards that are not just good for cleaning and conditioning, but also beneficial for promoting the ideal scalp environment for healthy hair growth.”
The good news is that beauty brands are not only listening to our concerns, they are taking action. “As we’ve become increasingly fixated on longer, thicker, and more abundant amounts of hair, we’re seeing a high demand for products that promise to do everything from helping with growth and length to repairing damage,” says Kali Ferrara, senior colorist at Roy Teeluck Salon in New York City. “This is likely because the trends today are long and natural hairstyles, full brows, and thicker lashes, without the use of extensions and other artificial add-ons.”
Looking to test out some of the best new products to make hair grow faster? Here they are, according to the celebrity hairstylists who use them.
Ferrara recommends this multivitamin to all her clients. “They contain all your daily nutrient needs along with biotin and folic acid, two known vitamins for hair growth,” she says. “You’ll first see a change in your nail growth, but it will take up to six weeks to see much change in your hair.”
“This line of products, which also includes a brow serum, prevents hair loss while triggering the natural regrowth of hairs,” says Ferrara. “These formulas include their phyto-medic complex, arginine (an essential amino acid), lavender water, and soy proteins to strengthen and condition.” You can expect to see results in about six weeks, which is pretty impressive for a tiny little serum!
“Nutrafol is a hair growth supplement that is becoming more and more popular for one reason: It actually works,” says Nate Bova, senior stylist at Warren Tricomi Salon at The Plaza in New York City. “It contains biotin and vitamin A, which is essential for cell regeneration, including hair!”
Samantha Sheppard, lead stylist at GLAM+GO, tells all of her clients to do this oil treatment once a week. “All you have to do is, before washing, apply a dime-sized amount from your mid-lengths to ends, where the hair is older and more prone to damage and breakage,” she says. “Leave it on for 10 to 15 minutes, then shampoo and condition as normal to help restore your hair’s lipids and moisture.”
While Olaplex doesn’t necessarily make hair grow from the scalp, it does contribute to the health of the hair on the head, explains Ferrara. “Your hair is made up of millions of bonds, and anytime you chemically process, some of those bonds are broken down, leading to a more weakened strand,” she says. “Different from conditioning treatments, which are also very important, Olaplex is a bond multiplier. While you’re lightening or coloring your hair and the chemicals are breaking your natural bonds, Olaplex is multiplying new ones, resulting in less breakage and therefore longer, healthier hair.”
The cult-fave hair care line just launched this new serum for hair growth. “The energizing leave-in treatment is key to reinforcing and promoting a healthy scalp,” says Bova. “Applied with a gentle scalp massage, it’s ideal to achieve strong, long, healthy hair.”
“Your body needs certain building blocks — protein, biotin, etc. — in order to grow strong, healthy hair, so I always recommend that my clients nourish their hair from within,” says Shepard.
“If you’re really serious about enhancing the growth, length, and volume of your hair, there are a few light therapy treatments on the market, like this one, that are designed to stimulate follicles at a cellular level to promote growth, slow hair loss, and restore your hair’s natural growth cycle,” says Sheppard.
