How Nicole Kidman's Face Has Transformed Over The Years, According To Our Plastic Surgeon
Nicole Kidman has been one of Hollywood's most striking actors since she hit the scene in the 1989 thriller "Dead Calm" and became a household name when she married Tom Cruise in 1990. Throughout her decades-long career, she's faced a lot of speculation about her appearance, including whether she's had injectables and plastic surgery. Other than mentioning in 2011 that she tried (and disliked) Botox, she's not generally among the celebrities who have opened up about having plastic surgery. In the past, she has postulated that sunscreen and clean living (she doesn't drink or smoke) are the keys to her youthful appearance.
Still, fans are skeptical and have repeatedly questioned what work she has had done. As such, Glam reached out to board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Brian Reagan from CosmetiCare Plastic Surgery Center in Newport Beach, California, to weigh in on how Nicole Kidman's face has transformed over the years. In Dr. Reagan's professional opinion, the "Babygirl" star has likely had a bit of work done. "Nicole has aged beautifully and gracefully," he exclusively tells Glam, adding that she "is one of our most beautiful actresses." Looking at photos from her early 20s through to her late 50s, he asserts that Kidman has possibly done laser resurfacing, a lower face lift, a neck lift, and fat grafting.
One area that Dr. Reagan believes she hasn't touched is the eye area, namely the brows. "Even early on [in her career], Nicole had lower-set eyebrows and some heaviness of her upper eyelids," he explains. "Her brows have always been on the lower side. I love that she's likely not had a brow lift -– that's part of her look. She's maintained that very naturally."
Plastic surgery procedures that Nicole Kidman may have had over the years
There are two areas that Dr. Brian Reagan believes Nicole Kidman may have tweaked over the years. The first is the shape of her face. "When she was younger, she had a rounder, fuller face. As she aged, her face thinned, which is probably related to nutrition and weight loss," Dr. Reagan exclusively tells Glam. (Most women lose fat in their faces as they age.) But Dr. Reagan points out that the fullness reappeared in her 50s, explaining, "I believe she may have had some fat grafting at this time because her face appeared a little fuller. These results have remained stable through her current age." Fat grafting involves transferring fat from one area of the body to another to make it look plumper.
Dr. Reagan also believes that Kidman may have had a lower face left and a neck lift. "Around the age of 50, you start to see some laxity in her lower face and neck. She also had an obtuse angle [a rounded rather than sharp jawline]. In subsequent photos, this appears corrected, suggesting that around her 50s, she had a lower face and neck lift," he breaks down for us. When it comes to her skin, Dr. Reagan suggests that she likely had laser resurfacing, a skincare treatment with minimal downtime. "Because she has fair skin, we would typically start to see some changes in skin quality by her 40s. But in her photos, you don't really see much sun damage, possibly due to makeup or possibly because she had some laser resurfacing in her 30s and 40s," Dr. Reagan adds (or, as Kidman asserts, because she's a sunscreen loyalist).
Going forward, Dr. Reagan recommends that she continue fat grafting and maintaining her skin quality with periodic resurfacing through lasers or microneedling (here's what to expect after microneedling). "Overall, she's done a wonderful job preserving her natural look. Again, a beautiful woman and her work looks natural," he concludes.
