Outdated Outfits Usha Vance Has Been Caught Wearing

Vice President JD Vance's wife, Usha Vance, became the second lady of the United States when Donald Trump was elected president and took office in January 2025, but she is much more than her husband's status. As the daughter of immigrants, she is the first Indian-American woman to hold the title. Before being thrust into the political sphere, Usha worked as a clerk for judges Brett Kavanaugh and John G. Roberts Jr., later becoming a litigator for a prestigious law firm.

Over the years, Usha's style has caused a bit of contention. She's been ridiculed for her frequently outdated footwear and aging herself with various ensembles. Truthfully, she may be taking notes from Karoline Leavitt's outfits that make her look so much older. That being said, Usha Vance has still made strides in her style transformation since JD took up politics, as she's started wearing more notable looks from prominent designers, like the Oscar de la Renta ensemble she wore to the inauguration. However, she still has quite a way to go before her style catches up to speed.

Usha Vance's choice of shoes is arguably her biggest fashion fail, since they are almost always relics of the past. For instance, in April 2025, she attended a White House celebration for the Ohio State University's football team for winning their ninth national championship. To coordinate with the school's colors, she wore a white blazer with a red dress underneath, but chose a white pair of sneakers to finish off the look. If that weren't bad enough, she wore them again when they were visiting Rome later that month.

While on the campaign trail, Usha and JD Vance were flying out of North Carolina when she decided on a sleeveless black bodysuit and skinny jeans. Yes, you read that right, if only she knew she's well overdue for ditching those skinny jeans.

During Usha and JD Vance's aforementioned trip to Rome, they attended church in Vatican City on Good Friday, but Usha's dated outfit was stealing all of the attention. She opted for a chevron midi dress with a dark neutral color palette — you know, that zig-zag pattern that was all over the place in the 2010s? The outdated print combined with a drab palette made for a look that was a complete miss. Not only that, it is yet another ensemble from Usha that is arguably too casual for the event.

Usha Vance's trip to Vatican City wasn't the only time the second lady has played around with patterns and failed. During a family trip to India in April 2025, one of her outfits was a white shirt and a midi skirt with what can best be described as a tablecloth-esque pattern. She finished off the look with a wide-brimmed sunhat, sunglasses, and her iconic pair of flat, strappy sandals. It works as a vacation outfit; however, it's giving 20th-century housewife.

During St. Patrick's Day 2025, Usha and JD Vance hosted the Taoiseach of Ireland Micheál Martin, and his wife Mary Martin, at the White House. Usha attempted to show support for Ireland with her ensemble, but it came up short. She wore a double-breasted black jacket with a black turtleneck underneath, with slacks that she likely read as green, but were teal (if only JD had the heart to tell her). Even despite the color faux pas, wearing a pop of neon was in style during the Y2K era and the 2010s, not when meeting the Prime Minister of Ireland in 2025.

Usha Vance attended the Friday Evening Parade presented by the Marine Corps in May 2025, and to no one's surprise, her outfit was yet another antiquated ensemble. The navy shirt dress she wore was a popular relic of the 1950s; not only that, but the garment was ill-fitting and in desperate need of an iron. To add fuel to the fire, she once again wore those brown strappy sandals. All around, it seemed as though Usha was cosplaying a school teacher, not attending an official event.
