Ivanka Trump's First Met Gala Outfit Should Have Landed Her On The Worst-Dressed List
The Met Gala is one of the most prestigious events in fashion every year, with A-list celebrities from around the globe pulling out their finest ensembles to avoid being included on the dreaded worst-dressed lists. The Trump family has long been in attendance at the exclusive event, but their ensembles have landed them at the bottom a few times over the years. For instance, one of the most outdated outfits Melania Trump was caught wearing was her mermaid-cut Alexander McQueen gown, which she wore to the event in 2005.
That's why, when Ivanka Trump made her Met Gala debut in 2004, the pressure was on. As the most fashion-forward member of the Trump family, people had high hopes for the former model. Unfortunately, she came up short on this occasion. The theme for the night was "Dangerous Liaisons: Fashion and Furniture in the 18th Century," but all Ivanka did was play it safe.
Ivanka decided on a satin gold dress with lace butterfly cutouts. In theory, it's an elegant garment; however, a few key things kept her at the bottom. For starters, the dress had asymmetrical sleeves, as one was a spaghetti strap with a drop shoulder, and the other was a thicker tank-top strap. Moving down to the skirt, it looks as if a mermaid skirt was the vision, but the gown doesn't even reach the floor. This all makes for an entirely unflattering silhouette, not to mention that the dress itself wasn't quite on theme.
Ivanka Trump's noughties Met Gala looks kept missing the mark
After her Met Gala debut in 2004, Ivanka Trump attended the Met Gala every year until 2016. Unfortunately, the look she wore her second time around might be even worse than the first. The theme of the 2005 Met Gala was "The House of Chanel," and while Ivanka Trump tends to favor outfits with a special meaning, this one left us completely confused. For the event, Ivanka donned a monochrome look with yet another asymmetrical silhouette. By now, we've learned that asymmetrical frocks don't work for the first daughter, particularly at the Met.
The black gown's skirt was riddled with ruffles, with the asymmetrical hem giving it a tattered and shredded texture. She accessorized with an infinite scarf with the same material (mind you, it was a spaghetti-strap gown. Whether she was hot or cold at the event, we'll never know) and peep-toe pumps. Perhaps the most jarring aspect of the look, though, was the blunt blond bob she debuted. Rather than "House of Chanel," all Ivanka Trump gave us was an outfit that didn't impress.
If you hadn't already guessed, Ivanka's dress for the 2006 event was yet another lackluster one. The theme was "Anglomania: Tradition and Transgression in British Fashion," which led Ivanka to a chocolate-brown chiffon gown with a plunging neckline and a satin bow at the waist. She paired the look with a cream clutch and flat, strappy sandals. No wonder she hasn't been invited back since 2016.
