This Ivanka Trump Dress Probably Looks Familiar To Blake Lively And Gossip Girl Fans
It almost feels like it could be a plot line from "Gossip Girl" — two Manhattan socialites caught wearing the same gown. In this case, only one of them is fictional, and that's Serena van der Woodsen, the "Gossip Girl" character that made Blake Lively famous. And the real-life socialite is none other than Ivanka Trump.
The dress in question is from Peter Pilotto's fall 2012 ready-to-wear show. It had a black underlay with shimmery details that had an art-deco feel to it. Ivanka posted a photo of her wearing the dress in March 2025 to her Instagram, which was 13 years after the dress was first seen on the runway and "Gossip Girl." We can't help but wonder if this is one of Ivanka Trump's outfits that has a special meaning? Or was there another reason she revisited this look, which originally debuted in Season 6 of the CW show, airing in November 2012? And is this something Ivanka has had sitting in her closet all this time or did she somehow get her hands on the actual one that Lively wore on screen?
Ivanka Trump has borrowed screen style before
Regardless of how she got her hands on the "Gossip Girl" dress, it's clear that Ivanka Trump likes to take fashion inspiration from pop culture. And while the sparkly Peter Pilotto frock might have gone undetected by most (even fans of "Gossip Girl" might not be able to remember that far back), the first daughter has worn other outfits that are much more noticeably inspired by Hollywood.
For the 2025 Liberty Ball honoring her father's second ascension to the White House, Ivanka Trump donned one of her most expensive outfits yet: a white Givenchy gown with a black floral design. Audrey Hepburn fans instantly recognized the look as inspired by the 1954 film "Sabrina." While it wasn't the actual gown Hepburn wore, designed for the movie by Hubert de Givenchy, the house of Givenchy did create a replica for Ivanka.
Then there was the look from her younger sister's 2022 wedding; and no, we're not referring to the inappropriate outfit Ivanka Trump wore to Tiffany Trump's rehearsal dinner. It was her blue Grecian bridesmaid look (posted to Instagram), which was a replica of a dress Grace Kelly wore in the 1955 film "To Catch a Thief." The gown was stunning, but critics questioned whether it stole focus from the bride. Either way, it's clear that Ivanka Trump has a thing for borrowing looks from the screen, whether they're inappropriate or not.
