The Beloved Clothing Brand Lauren Boebert Tried To Convince People To Boycott
June was declared Pride Month by former President Bill Clinton in 1999 to commemorate the Stonewall uprising of 1969. Since then, conservative figures who object to LGBTQ+ rights have been trying to bring the celebration to an end, and this includes Colorado Rep. Lauren Boebert. Over the years, as Pride Month has become commercialized, brands have come out with celebratory merchandise lines, packaging, and advertisements. While this has been seen as an effort of inclusion for many, others have seen it as disgraceful. In May 2023, much to Boebert's chagrin, beloved outerwear brand The North Face partnered with drag queen Pattie Gonia for its Pride collection. The politician then took to X to voice her disdain.
"Well, I guess North Face wanted to get a taste of what conservatives did to Bud Light and Target," Boebert wrote, referring to the other notable Pride collections that year. "How many times do we have to explain to the woke marketing departments at these disgusting companies that America is not a nation of degenerates?" She finished off the tweet by calling for a complete boycott of the brand, adding that it should be considered "shameful." Strong words from someone like Lauren Boebert who keeps wearing the same gaudy cowboy shoes. Naturally, many disagreed with this sentiment, with one user writing, "I'm not sure what triggered you Bobo, but my bet is that North Face is on the right side of history."
Lauren Boebert has long opposed Pride Month
It's no secret that Lauren Boebert has been an opponent of Pride Month for quite some time. A day before Pride Month began in 2022 — the year before The North Face's Pride line — Boebert drew attention to a North Carolina teacher who resigned after using inclusive flash cards, writing in a tweet, "We went from Reading Rainbow to Randy Rainbow in a few decades, but don't dare say the Left is grooming our kids!" As we know, being inclusive doesn't equal grooming children, but Boebert and many others still seem to equate the two.
Then, in June 2023 — the same year as The North Face's Pride collection — the United States Air Force joined the celebration with a now-deleted tweet of a soldier saluting the Pride flag, writing that the military branch supports its LGBTQ+ members. To no one's surprise, Boebert went off on her favorite social media app, X, writing "We salute one flag and one flag only in the United States of America. It isn't the 'Pride' flag." It's safe to say Boebert couldn't be more different from folks like Reba McEntire, who often supports the LGBTQ+ community.
