Sharon Osbourne's Outfit At Ozzy's Funeral Had A Heartbreaking Detail

The world is mourning the Prince of Darkness, Ozzy Osbourne, and our hearts broke all over again watching his family grieve at his funeral. The rock legend, whose real name was John Michael Osbourne, died on July 22 and was laid to rest on July 30 in his hometown of Birmingham, England. But Ozzy's funeral wasn't just a farewell; it felt like the closing chapter of his decades-long love story with Sharon Osbourne, whom he married in 1982.

Fans of the Osbournes couldn't help but notice that Sharon's outfit at his funeral was particularly bittersweet, as she appeared to wear one of Ozzy's rings on a chain around her neck. "Sharon Osbourne wearing Ozzy's wedding ring in a chain around her neck while mourning him [crying emoji] we love you shaz," one X poster wrote of the moment. "This is the ring they got for their wedding renewal in 2017, he used to wear both this and the original wedding band from when they got married in 1982 [crying emoji]."

Fate brought Sharon and Ozzy together in 1970 thanks to the latter's band, Black Sabbath, being managed by her father. And while their marriage was by no means free of scandal, they stuck it out. The talk-show host was open about everything, from their marital issues to Ozzy's career struggles and even the little things, like opening up about plastic surgery as a celebrity. Back in July 2022, on their 40th anniversary, Sharon called him her "soulmate" on Instagram, writing, "We first met when I was 18, over 52 years we have been friends, lovers, husband & wife, grandparents, and soulmates. Always at each other's side. I love you, Ozzy." It's no wonder she'd want to keep one of his rings close to her heart at his funeral.

Ozzy Osbourne's children also paid homage to him with their outfits

It wasn't only Sharon Osbourne who bid a quiet farewell to Ozzy Osbourne through her outfit. Their three children — Aimee, Kelly, and Jack Osbourne — each included subtle tributes through meaningful pieces of jewelry that also seemed to be transitional objects to help them process grief. Aimee wore a bat-shaped brooch, which fans immediately recognized as a nod to one of Ozzy's most infamous on-stage moments, when he bit off a real bat's head in 1982. Kelly kept it understated and chic with a pair of circular-rimmed glasses, just like the signature style Ozzy wore throughout his life. Finally, Jack wore a cross pin at the bottom of his black tie, presumably paying homage to the gothic aesthetic his father embraced.

Beyond Aimee, Kelly, and Jack, Ozzy also had three children with his first wife, Thelma Riley, but only one of them, Louis Osbourne, attended the public tribute. Louis wore a black suit and a purple tie patterned with skulls, which could reference his father's dark and theatrical career. Unlike Ozzy's other kids with Riley, Louis signed Ozzy's passing announcement on X, which reads, "It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning. He was with his family and surrounded by love."

The Osbournes had a complicated family relationship

Long before children came into the picture, Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne's relationship was already complicated. Just a year after they met, Ozzy married another woman, Thelma Riley, adopted her son, and went on to have two more children with her. However, due to addiction, he was largely absent as a father, and they struggled financially. In the 2011 "God Bless Ozzy Osbourne" documentary, his eldest daughter reflected on the rockstar as a father: "My recollection from my childhood with dad is that he'd be away for very long periods of time, and there'd always be a period of adjustment when he came home, and then it'd get to normality and then he'd go again" (via E! When Ozzy married Sharon in 1982, he was fresh off his divorce from Riley and still struggling with addiction. Sharon worked as wife, manager, and caretaker, and this continued well into their years as parents. In a 2021 interview with Variety, Ozzy admitted that he'd barely considered how his behavior affected his children. "I didn't give a sh*t because I was loaded," he said. "It's a very selfish disease. You don't think about it because you're loaded, in an altered state."

Kelly and Jack developed addictions as well, with Kelly sharing one of the most inspiring quotes on sobriety from a celeb: "Life is truly amazing when you do the work." When Ozzy became sober, he publicly said that it was great for his health. "I really like being sober. [...] I work out, I exercise a lot, I go for regular physicals. Call me a hypochondriac. I don't care," he said while being interviewed by Jack on Noisey in 2014. Thanks to his final concert on July 5, fans were able to experience his talent one last time, and it's clear by the accessories worn to his funeral a few weeks later that fans and family alike will cherish his legacy.
