The Worst-Dressed Celebs At The 2025 US Open
The US Open is one of the most fashionable sporting events of the year, and not because of the competitors. The real runway is in the stands, where stars turn up to watch their favorite players while showing off their personal styles. For many, that means weaving a bit of athlete-core into their looks. From pleated tennis skirts to trendy sneakers and even our favorite tennis-core hair trends, they serve plenty of Pinterest-worthy moments.
But for every outfit that has us hitting "save," there are others that feel underwhelming or out of place. Some even leave us whispering, "Why that ... and why here?" At the 2025 US Open, held from August 24 to September 7 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York City, a number of fan-favorite stars have fallen into this category. They've worn boring looks, inappropriate 'fits, and ensembles that screamed, "I gave up halfway through putting this together." While a few of our regular worst-dressed offenders made predictable appearances, some unexpected names have joined their ranks. With that said, here are the worst-dressed celebs at the 2025 US Open, from actors and designers to musicians.
Queen Latifah's shoes ruined her 2025 US Open look
The oversized everything trend was huge in 2024, and it's here to stay. We're not mad at it, either. In fact, if anyone could pull it off, it's longtime style icon Queen Latifah. But like any fashion trend, it still requires thoughtful styling, and the "Hairspray" star's look feels like the opposite. The shoes, for one, completely ruin the outfit. Slip-ons can be great, but between the color and the style, they clash awkwardly with everything else. White sneakers would have nailed the look and tied perfectly to the US Open vibe. Then, there's the other issue: Her oversized jacket seems to have loose seams. The hanging threads only make the outfit look more undone, and not in the intentional, cool-girl way.
Chelsea Handler's US Open look was a crime against style
From Y2K fashion to stunning red-carpet moments and edgy-casual 'fits, we've always been here for Chelsea Handler's style transformation. She's got the beautifully maturing features and self-assuredness that usually translate into bold, confident looks, but there was no amount of confidence that could save her hungover-looking 2025 US Open outfit. Her hair looked undone, the plain white dress offered zero waist definition, and the crossbody bag was a full-blown fashion crime when paired with this outfit. And why did she pick those unflattering sandals? The entire ensemble gave off "lost tourist" energy, and we've got to say, it's not a good look.
Vera Wang's nightgown of a dress at the 2025 US Open literally hung off her
There's no doubt that Vera Wang is one of the greatest style icons of our time. She's one of the biggest names in fashion, and we've lost count of how many celebrities have worn Vera Wang wedding dresses and stunned on their big days. But for some reason, it feels like she saves all of her style genius for her clients and none for herself. Her outfit at the 2025 US Open is a peak example. The gray-and-white dress did nothing to flatter her frame. Moreover, not only did the fabric look cheap, but it also wasn't styled in any way and had zero sporting vibes. Even more importantly, this look is pretty similar to the one that landed her on our list of the worst-dressed celebs at the 2025 Met Gala. It doesn't look good, and it's a repeat. This gets zero stars, and we hope we never see this look again.
Quinta Brunson's dress at the US Open was an astoundingly lazy pick
We absolutely adore "Abbott Elementary" star Quinta Brunson, which is why it pains us to include her on the list of worst-dressed celebs at the 2025 US Open. Still, this one was entirely unavoidable. This dress is everything you don't want at a high-profile event. The sheer fabric is pretty, but it feels far too casual and has zero sporty elements. It's giving "light and airy," which would be perfect for a beach stroll, but not for the US Open. And then there are the mismatched sleeves and the unbalanced neckline. Why?
Katie Holmes' bed hair didn't do her any favors at the 2025 US Open
Of all the names on this list, few were as surprising as this "Ocean's 8" actor. Judging by the number of times Katie Holmes has dressed for revenge and served, her style track record is consistently impressive. But even icons have their off days, and this was one of them. The biggest misstep in Holmes' US Open outfit was pairing an unremarkable dress with an equally uninspired jacket. Then, there was Holmes' hair, which read less "windswept" and more "what even is a brush?" The bag was very cute, but it just didn't work with the rest of the look. Katie, we love you, but every outfit needs at least one focal point — and this one had none.
Michaela Jaé Rodriguez's outfit wasn't the right look for the US Open
Actor and singer Michaela Jaé Rodriguez is gorgeous — and she clearly knows it — but even her good looks couldn't make this outfit work for the US Open. Lace typically gives off a sultry or formal vibe, so styling it for sport events requires skill. Instead, this look feels more suited for a summer brunch or a casual cocktail outing. Plus, we're not huge fans of the short blouse, either.
Laverne Cox's US Open ensemble was one pair of bunny ears away from a Playboy outfit
Laverne Cox has stunning features and is one of those celebrities who looks just as gorgeous with natural hair, but her outfit at the 2025 US Open had us wondering if she'd gotten lost on the way to a costume party. The tutu-style skirt, mesh gloves, and tights give performance vibes rather than casual-sport glamour. And with zero sporting references in sight, we bet she looked more than a little out of place in the stands. Yes, fashion is about creating your own style, but it's also about interpreting the theme — and this outfit had no connection to tennis whatsoever.
Ciara Wilson's 2025 US Open outfit was a bore
Singer-songwriter and dancer Ciara Wilson is gorgeous, stylish, and has great taste, which is why her outfit at the 2025 US Open had us scratching our heads. Technically, there's nothing wrong with it. The blue-and-white striped dress wasn't awful, and the color was on-theme. But for a global superstar, "okay" just doesn't cut it. The problem is that Ciara's look flopped on the seven-point fashion rule. It's made up of too many ordinary, unremarkable pieces and nothing that adds a spark of personality. In fact, the most fashionable element was her Birkin, and even that couldn't carry the outfit.
Tina Fey's US Open look was beyond dull
Tina Fey is right up there on our list of celebrities with the cutest faces, but even her adorable charm won't get a pass for this outfit. We know Fey can do better. She often blends mom-core with her down-to-earth taste and cleans up beautifully for red-carpet events. Her US Open look, however, was a total letdown and deserves its spot on our list. It felt like she was wearing an exaggerated costume of the "out-of-style nerd" before their inevitable glow-up in a chick flick. None of the pieces were unique or sport-chic, and the bag — with its three random colors not found anywhere else in the outfit — made even less sense. It's dull and uninspired, and the US Open deserves better.
