Hannah Einbinder's Complete Transformation

Fans of the award-winning, Jean Smart-led show "Hacks" know Hannah Einbinder for her sharp, witty portrayal of comedy writer Ava Daniels, who's enlisted to help Smart's character regain significance as a comedian. Einbinder, who has been nominated for the best supporting actress in a comedy Emmy since the show debuted in 2021, finally took home the trophy at age 30 at the September 2025 ceremony in Los Angeles, wearing a beautiful asymmetrical Louis Vuitton gown. After the ceremony, Einbinder changed into a short party dress and had her hairstylist chop her hair from a shoulder-grazing lob to a chin-length bob.

This seems to be a very Einbinder thing to do. She's spontaneous, and she's very, very funny. After all, she has comedy in her veins; this nepo baby's mom was an original cast member on "SNL" from 1975 to 1980, and her dad was a comedy writer in Hollywood. From youngster in L.A. to an outspoken activist, Einbinder has transformed into an adult with dimension, cementing herself as one of Hollywood's most interesting acts to follow.

2002-2014: Hannah Einbinder's childhood hobbies include cheerleading and carpets

The entertainment industry has been part of Hannah Einbinder's world forever. At age 7, she attended the premiere of "The Wild Thornberrys" movie in Hollywood with her family. Her mom, Laraine Newman, had a voice role in the film, which is just one of her many acting credits. She's voiced characters in dozens of TV shows and films, including "Finding Nemo," "Tangled," "Sing," and "Inside Out 2."

It was also a movie that led Einbinder to pursue cheerleading in middle school. After seeing the Kirsten Dunst-helmed "Bring It On" from 2000, "I became obsessed with cheerleading," she told Harper's Bazaar in 2024. "I went to cheer camp in L.A., and then I joined competitive teams." The "Hacks" star revealed that her coaches were very intense, but they won every competition they entered. She would later include her experiences as a cheerleader with military-style coaches into her standup comedy routine.

2015-2018: Hannah Einbinder steps into her own career and style

Hannah Einbinder hit the red carpet with her mother again in 2015 to celebrate the Los Angeles premiere of "Live From New York!," a documentary celebrating the first 40 years of "SNL." For the event, Einbinder was dressy-casual in a floating white blouse and black bottoms. This color combination would be a recurring one in Einbinder's future red-carpet appearances. While we're fans of this never-fail combination, if you're going to channel Einbinder, we'd suggest adding a pop of color to your black outfit as a surefire way to make a statement.

She also wore the combo when she hit the stand-up comedy circuit in 2018. Though Einbinder went to Chapman University to pursue broadcast journalism, she eventually joined the school's improv team, which led her to stand-up. She began driving to open-mic nights in Southern California to put her best material to the test. From the get-go, she's incorporated causes that are important to her, from the environment to feminism, into her routines.

2019-2020: Hannah Einbinder makes a name for herself

In 2019, Hannah Einbinder's comedic star continued to rise. After the annual Just For Laughs comedy festival in Montreal, Québec, which has hosted the likes of then-newbies Jimmy Fallon and Ali Wong, NPR named her one of the 10 best "new faces" from the event. For her stand-up appearances, Einbinder regularly wore a uniform of hipster jackets and jeans, including a retro-looking red jacket with an Esso badge on it for a September 2019 appearance at the Ice House comedy club in Pasadena, California.

In 2020, Einbinder marked another milestone as she made her network television debut on "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert." She posted a photo from the appearance on Instagram, writing, "I made sure to wear my GOOD doc martins," referring to her lug-soled loafers, which she paired with a grommet-studded black jacket and black jeans. This felt like a natural progression of the style we'd seen from her so far, with her overall taste only getting classier as her career progressed.

2021-2024: A Hacks star is born and Hannah Einbinder ups her glam factor

With no television acting experience, Hannah Einbinder was more than a little surprised when she was offered the job of playing Ava Daniels on "Hacks." But it spurred her on to prove herself, which she did. After her first season on the show, she was nominated for her first Emmy. For the ceremony, she chose a pink Prada gown, which featured a stunning V-shape at the back that gathered into a huge bow and dramatic train. Einbinder was channeling Betty Draper from the 1960s-set "Mad Men" series. Her hairstylist finished the look with a piece of the dress's fabric tied as a thin headband into Einbinder's signature blonde bob. She also began hitting the red carpet in tuxedo looks, including at the 2021 Women in Film award ceremony held in Los Angeles.

While Jean Smart's character on "Hacks" relentlessly teases Einbinder's Ava about her lack of fashion sense, the same cannot be said of Einbinder when she hits the red carpet. As Einbinder's notoriety grew, so did her access to the biggest fashion houses in the world. For the March 2022 SAG awards, she opted for a Grecian-inspired taupe Dior gown, which was a prime example of elegant drapey dresses elevating bodycon style.

For the 2024 Academy Museum gala, which has become the low-key West Coast equivalent of the Met Gala, Einbinder stunned again, this time in Louis Vuitton. Here, we particularly loved the feedback one of her followers posted on an Instagram post of the dress: "That is, and you are, BOMB in every way that counts and I love you."

2025-Present: Hannah Einbinder has blossomed into a red carpet star

Hannah Einbinder's transformation from nepo baby to acting and style star hit a crescendo in 2025: Einbinder continued to stun in draped gowns and structural designs and finally nabbed an Emmy.

For the Golden Globes in January, Einbinder wore a gorgeous confection from Louis Vuitton by Nicolas Ghesquière that definitely didn't land her on our list of worst-dressed celebs at the 2025 Golden Globes. Of the gown, she told Harper's Bazaar, "Because the Globes dress is this lovely bone color, it makes me feel like a Roman goddess etched from stone." You better believe she looked the part.

She stuck with her Vuitton loyalties by choosing a boundary-pushing look from the label for the Critics' Choice Awards the following month. In an Instagram post, Einbinder called the green avant-garde piece "the most exquisite custom dress." Fans applauded the choice, with one commenter writing, "You look so chic and beautiful," and another offering, "What an incredible dress." Ultimately, while she's still relatively new to her acting career, Einbinder has become one to watch, both on the screen and on the red carpet.
