Lauren Sánchez's Outfit For Her Mother-In-Law's Funeral Had People Talking

Social media might thrive on snark, but funerals usually get a pass because even the most toxic corners of the internet tend to pull back when tragedy is involved. However, at Lauren Sánchez's mother-in-law's funeral, the internet just couldn't look away from her outfit. Lauren arrived, alongside Jeff Bezos, in a navy blazer, a black maxi skirt, minimal jewelry, and shoes that didn't exactly tie the look together. As many social media users pointed out, the pieces felt mismatched. The blazer and skirt clashed, and the shoes only made things worse.

Maybe an everyday Jane Doe could've gotten away with it, but when you're a multimillionaire with a fashion résumé and endless resources, the internet expects better. One commenter snarkily wrote, "One of the richest men in the world, yet he couldn't Amazon order his wife a matching blazer with her black skirt...at his mother's funeral?" Another tore into the shoes: "The shoes are for a bar or nightclub." Others questioned if she even had a stylist.

But there were those who complimented her outfit — well, sort of. One commenter said: "Wow I'm very shocked she's wearing appropriate clothing!" It was a backhanded compliment, but it was the least negative of the bunch. Was the outfit fashionable? Not quite. But given that people might have had something to say if she'd been too put together, there's a possibility that this is all part of the never-ending backlash from Lauren Sánchez's inappropriate inauguration day outfit.

Lauren Sánchez doesn't care if people dislike her style

Given that social media isn't exactly subtle, it's no surprise Lauren Sánchez is aware of the criticism of her fashion sense. On "The View" in September 2024, host Sunny Hostin started up the conversation about Lauren's controversial tastes. "Have you always been into fashion?" she asked. The former journalist explained that she was drawn to glam outfits long before meeting Jeff Bezos, and viewed it as a way to honor her roots and channel the women she admires.

"I really look up to women like Eva Longoria, Salma Hayek, Jennifer Lopez, [and] Sofìa Vergara. They really embrace their culture when they dress, and so I think it's just in me and, you know, it's a little sexy," she said with a grin and a shrug. Lauren Sánchez also shared that Barbara Walters had once given her fashion advice, which encouraged her to be herself irrespective of how she was received by others: "If you're going to go down, go down as yourself, because if you don't go down as yourself, you're going to beat yourself up twice."

Lauren Sánchez is used to critical press headlines

The internet loves to hate on Lauren Sánchez's tastes, but she's okay with it. In a 2024 interview, she told Elle that she didn't mind having controversial fashion choices. "I really just kind of remain committed to expressing my true, authentic self through fashion, and some people really love it, and some people really hate it, and that's okay," she explained.

What has changed, however, is how vulnerable she allows herself to be with people. Lauren told the Wall Street Journal that she used to tell all her secrets, but had to change that. "I learned how to not give the location of where I'm at," she admitted. "I can't Instagram things that I normally would before. I have to be more private, a little more controlled, and that's fine." This comment came after the journalist-turned-pilot was reportedly betrayed by her brother. This family rift was also the reason Lauren Sánchez's mom didn't get a wedding invitation to her and Jeff Bezos' wedding.

Still, Sánchez has learned to cope with the headlines, no matter how shocking or critical they are. "Nothing shocks me anymore," she admitted. "One time it was [reported] that we left our passport somewhere, and we sent a plane to get our passports. It was such a ridiculous story."
