While many figures in Hollywood rely on cosmetic procedures to maintain their youth, Elizabeth Banks has a different approach. She didn't start taking her aging journey seriously until she contracted shingles in her 40s, telling Healthline in April 2025, "Suddenly, I felt a little bit my age, and my sense of invincibility was shattered. I felt I needed to take better care of myself in all aspects." Since shingles can be brought on through stress, Banks aimed to restore the peace and overall wellness in her life with a simple routine.
"Water, better nutrition, eight hours of sleep," she revealed to People several months later in September. "I've really come to terms with the fact that I need seven to eight hours of sleep. It affects everything about me, including the way that I look and the way my skin feels." As far as water goes, she has two glasses of water every morning, with the recommended daily intake for women being 11.5 glasses of fluids (including fluids within foods).
While the eight hours of sleep part of her routine is pretty easy to understand, Banks delved deeper into her food habits with EatingWell in February 2024. "I believe in the power of moderation, listening to my body's signals and choosing foods that fuel me for my long days on set," she noted. "For me, eating well also extends beyond the physical aspect and embraces the emotional and social aspects of food. It means enjoying meals with loved ones and a good can of wine, savoring delicious flavors and being present in the moment. It's about fostering a positive relationship with food without guilt or restrictions." Banks supplements her healthy approach to food with making time for herself in the morning, which includes kicking off the day with a walk and a cup of freshly brewed tea.
Elizabeth Banks also pays attention to her skincare
Elizabeth Banks takes a more holistic approach to her wellness, but that doesn't mean she forgets topical treatments altogether. As a No.7 skincare ambassador, she uses multiple products from the range to keep looking youthful, including cleansers, face serums, eye serums, and other things your skincare routine needs if you're over 40. "[No7] just takes the guesswork out of my beauty routine," she told People. "It's one less thing I have to think about or worry about. I don't need to decide how to do my skincare. These are just the products; this is what you use."
The "Pitch Perfect" actor admitted to EatingWell that she has a guilty pleasure when it comes to her skin: "For my nighttime routine, I hate to admit it but I tend to take too-long of showers, which is bad on every level, but I love a long, hot shower. Afterwards, I lather up with No7's Future Renew Damage Reversal Night Cream — it is heaven!" While speaking to the outlet, she revealed that she balances her hot shower habit (which can ruin your skin barrier) with hydrating herself again, presumably with water. "If I'm lucky, I'll be able to get into bed early, as I believe prioritizing lots of sleep is key to any successful routine," she reiterated.
Ultimately, Banks clarified to People that she's "happy about" aging and there's no need to fear it. Perhaps more than her skincare, diet, sleep schedule, or water intake, she has adjusted her mindset to making the process easier. "It's your attitude," she confirmed. "Getting rid of negative self-talk and just being positive about how you feel about yourself."
