Halsey's Inappropriate Outfit At The 2022 iHeartRadio Music Awards Will Always Haunt Her
Throughout her decade-long music career, Halsey has created more than a few viral moments. Sometimes they're inspiring, like the time she suffered an awards show wardrobe malfunction at the 2019 iHeartRadio Music Awards but persevered with confidence through her set. Sometimes they make us need to dig deeper, like when they said breast milk is a great skincare dupe and we asked a dermatologist to explain. And sometimes, her viral moments are for her outfits, like the one that was among the most inappropriate outfits in iHeartRadio Music Awards history.
The look in question was from designer Andrés Sardá and styled by Law Roach, who has famously worked with Zendaya and Ariana Grande for years. That should be a recipe for outfit success, no? No. The jumpsuit — if we can call it that — featured a minimal crystal bikini top that connected to bikini bottoms and finished with spandex-y looking flared chaps. The Go Fug Yourself blog writers said it best: "Halsey, you hilarious naked flower, you look like you're in an ABBA revue in Las Vegas."
Halsey's outfit garnered a lot of fan feedback
While there were plenty of fans who appreciated Halsey's outfit at the March 2022 iHeartRadio Music Awards, many were outspoken in their dislike of the look. One point of contention — that she was a new-ish mom at the time — took up a lot of the conversation. Halsey gave birth to son Ender in July 2021; he was the product of their past relationship with Alev Aydin. As one fan wrote on Facebook, "I love that you can see her c section scar," lending relatability and realness to Halsey.
Others praised how good her body looked after having a baby. But the New Jersey-native had previously pushed back on such praise. After appearing on "SNL" in October 2021, the "Control" singer posted on social media about how confusing that was and offered words of support for new moms and the pressures they face. While a noble endeavor, it does bring up the question of why they would wear such a revealing outfit six months later.
Aside from that drama, however, many people straight-up did not like the look. People magazine posted an image on Instagram, saying Halsey looked "stunning." Cue follower reactions: "That is far from stunning!" wrote one, while another added, "Wtf is that. Omg. What has this world come to." But one follower commented that the outfit was "beautiful for the beach!" Agreed: Inappropriate for an awards show, but a knockout (if dramatic) bikini to rock poolside in Vegas, without the elastane chaps.
