Throwback Picture Shows Usha Vance's Hairstyle Has Always Been Consistent

Usha Vance has rocketed to global recognition since her husband, JD Vance, became the vice president in 2024, but unlike many famous women in political circles, she hasn't let the pressure of being on the international stage affect every area of her life, particularly when it comes to her look. The California-born second lady has become known for her subdued fashion and beauty preferences, frequently opting for a quiet aesthetic that doesn't rock the boat. Indeed, Usha Vance and Melania Trump's styles couldn't be more different, with the latter being much more extravagant. So, no one was surprised when a resurfaced photo of Usha from her high-school days showed her with a very similar hairstyle to what she has now.

Posted by Tommy Sablan, the parent of someone who went to school with the SLOTUS, the yearbook photo features a teen Usha with her signature side part, raven locks, and blunt, shoulder-length cut. Though the second lady hasn't given fans much insight into her hair routine today, she did hint in an April 2025 interview that she's never strayed from her natural color. "I'm laughing, because it would be really hard for me to be blonde ... that color would look totally absurd," she told The Free Press, adding that aesthetics aren't her priority. "For what it's worth, my reception into this world — and I'm not from a particularly wealthy background, not from a very fashion-oriented background personally or professionally — has been really positive. People don't seem to care all that much what I look like."

Second Lady Usha Vance knows she has more to offer than a look

One of the only real differences in Usha Vance's hair today, as opposed to the hair she had in high school, is that it seems to be sightly shorter and bouncier, but that extra length is hardly noticeable. These days, she does occasionally incorporate a chic updo into her hair routine, as she did at President Donald Trump's 2025 inauguration. She's also become one of the celebrities who proudly show off their gray hair as she gets older.

Despite these barely visible changes, the second lady has remained consistent in her attitude toward the way she looks — as a smart and determined woman, she has more important things to offer. "The day before JD was selected — I did not know he was going to be selected — I was working as a lawyer, and I had the wardrobe of a person with three children who likes to do things outdoors, who has a dog, who doesn't like things to be too precious," she shared during her interview with The Free Press. "And then, a switch flipped, and it's not like it came with a whole new wardrobe and stylist and everything." Ultimately, the SLOTUS is far from a diva when it comes to her styling, which is why Usha Vance's method for picking out her outfits is super relatable
