Jennifer Aniston's Inappropriate Outfit At The 2003 People's Choice Awards Had Everyone Staring
Since her days as the iconic Rachel Green, Jennifer Aniston has been a style legend. Between gifting the world the Rachel haircut and teaching us how to look effortlessly put together in comfy jeans, she has earned the status of fashion guru, and she can officially do no wrong (we especially love what Jennifer Aniston has said about plastic surgery). That's why she — and only she — got away with her super-revealing 'fit at the 2003 People's Choice Awards. Taking home the win for best female TV performer that night, Aniston graced the red carpet in a perhaps too-casual outfit consisting of flared black slacks and a matching black shirt with a seriously plunging neckline. In fact, the first button that was done up on the shirt sat around her belly button.
Aniston complemented the look with layered dainty necklaces and her signature beachy waves, plus a diamond choker. Notwithstanding the fact that it was a pretty revealing look for a family-friendly event, this outfit was a brave choice considering Aniston had broken her toe and was wearing moon boots. Since she had to walk with a cane, she had one less hand to adjust her top if the material slipped out of place, and it really wouldn't have taken a lot for that to happen. As far as we're concerned, that confidence alone made this a power move on Aniston's part, even if inappropriate, which may have been her intention all along. "Women were never allowed to have power," she told InStyle in 2019. "Power feels sexy to me today, as does women's intelligence and how capable and creative they are." Yes, girl! This 'fit may have marked the first of Aniston's super-low necklines, but in the years that followed, she seemed to repeat the motif again and again.
Jennifer Aniston loves a plunging neckline
The very next year, Jennifer Aniston attended the 2004 Golden Globes in another incredibly plunging style, this time in the form of a more formal black dress. And this time, the dress had a buckle that reached across her bare skin, which somehow made the look even more daring. Then, she went for similar silhouettes at the Critics' Choice Movie Awards and the Screen Actors Guild Awards in 2015, wearing a copper power suit with similarly draped layered necklaces and an olive, figure-hugging dress respectively. Finally, at the 2017 Vanity Fair Oscar Party, Aniston served fearless fashion again in a glitzy black number with a daring thigh slit to match the low-cut neck. She might not always get it right — she was on our list of the worst-dressed celebs at the 2024 Golden Globes, after all — but no one can accuse Aniston of a lack of risk-taking.
She's certainly not afraid to turn up the drama on the red carpet in particular, whether the event is family-friendly or not, but Aniston's street style is considerably more relaxed. When asked about her fashion sense during a 2014 interview with Yahoo! Beauty, the "Horrible Bosses" actor responded, "It's just called laziness." Her preference for comfortable clothing is actually the incredibly relatable reason why Jennifer Aniston has never been to the Met Gala.
