Melania Trump's Most Low-Effort Looks In Donald's Second Term That Prove She's Over It
Melania Trump has never said she doesn't like being first lady, but as they say, actions speak louder than words, and her actions sure do say plenty. Unlike her predecessors, she took her sweet time moving into the White House during Donald Trump's first presidency, joining her husband five months after his inauguration. At the time, there was already chatter that she wasn't happy about having to leave behind her relatively private life as a billionaire's wife to play presidential spouse. "[Melania] didn't want this come hell or high water. I don't think she thought it was going to happen," a Trump family insider told Vanity Fair in 2017. By the time the Trumps left in January 2021, the arguably most low-profile first lady in modern history had also become one of the most disliked, according to a CNN/SSRS poll.
While her appearances during Donald's first campaigns and term were already low by first lady standards, Melania pretty much disappeared from the public eye when her husband ran for office for the third time. Donald probably spent more time assuring fans that Melania would join him on the 2024 campaign trail than actually appearing with his wife during said campaign. Melania continued to be low-key even after he won, spending less than two weeks in the White House during his first three months in office and making few appearances throughout 2025.
But if her actions speak louder than words, then the former model's outfit choices might as well have been shouting how much she dislikes the job she didn't exactly sign up for. From her military parade suit to her Halloween ensemble, there were a few low-effort looks during Donald's second term that strongly suggest Melania Trump is over it.
Melania Trump went for a boring Easter Egg Roll trench
The White House Easter Egg Roll in April 2025 was among the rare official public appearances Melania Trump had made at that point in the second Trump presidency, so you'd assume she'd bring her style A-game. (After all, Melania Trump had wowed in one of her best looks for 2025 — a three-piece Ralph Lauren suit — a few weeks prior.) Unfortunately, her ensemble said otherwise. She donned a cream trench and gray pumps — a combo that not only bored us to tears but also looked out of place in the sea of florals, pastels, and ginghams.
Melania Trump wore a frumpy suit for Donald's lavish military parade
Melania Trump might have guessed that Donald Trump's military parade would turn out to be sad and cringeworthy ahead of the June 2025 event because the dowdy ivory pinstriped skirt suit she chose for the occasion pretty much screamed, "I don't want to be here." The boxy ensemble, whose blazer alone came with a $2,490 price tag, was not only worlds apart from Melania Trump's gorgeous and immensely flattering pantsuits but also perfectly encapsulated everything wrong about the POTUS' wildly expensive but severely underwhelming military-parade-slash-army-birthday celebration.
Melania Trump rocked a lazy Halloween look
When Melania Trump joined her husband Donald Trump in giving candy to kids who went trick-or-treating at the White House in October 2025, she almost got lost in the decorations due to how seamlessly her outfit blended in with the pumpkins and foliage. Dressed in typical fall and Halloween colors, she donned a voluminous camel-colored coat dress with orange details, which she paired with nude heels. While she had also worn coat dresses in previous Halloween celebrations during her time as first lady, this particular look just seemed lazy in comparison.
We can't forget Melania Trump's drab suit for her husband's speech
Melania Trump suffered some major fashion fails during her appearances at joint sessions of Congress over the years. March 2025 marked another entry on the list when, for the joint address with Donald Trump, Melania Trump chose a boring but eye-wateringly expensive Dior blazer and pencil skirt. While it wasn't totally identical, the skirt suit looked similar enough to another gray Dior set she'd worn on election night just a few months earlier that we almost suspected she'd simply bought every suit of this color from the luxury house to save herself time and effort.
Melania Trump's Kennedy Center Honors gown was ultra-safe
While the Kennedy Center Honors isn't the Met Gala, Melania Trump played it way too safe when she attended its 48th edition at the Kennedy Center in December 2025. The first lady graced the red carpet in a sleeveless column Givenchy gown that looked almost like a repeat of the more stunning Bottega Veneta gown she'd worn to the "Les Misérables" opening night at the same venue six months earlier. While Melania looked gorgeous, her Givenchy look seemed like sloppy silhouette recycling rather than a sincere attempt to create another incredible fashion moment.
Melania Trump opted for a bizarre coat at the Children's National Hospital
Melania Trump returned to the Children's National Hospital in December 2025 for the annual first lady visit and reading, but her bizarre look had us wondering if she'd stopped by a James Bond villain's lair first and borrowed their bathrobe to wear to the holiday event. Unsuitable and unflattering, the suede ensemble was another entry to the ongoing trend of Melania throwing on a random trench from her closet rather than getting creative with her wardrobe during Donald Trump's second term as president.
