Tara Reid's Botched Plastic Surgery Changed Her Career Forever

Tara Reid is among the many famous actors from the '90s who are practically unrecognizable now, thanks to plastic surgery. While many of her peers are celebrities who confessed to plastic surgery after first denying it, Reid herself has been open about her experiences with cosmetic procedures from the get-go. During an October 2006 Access Hollywood interview, the "American Pie" star shared that she had decided to get a breast augmentation to have a Hollywood-approved body. From her perspective, her unevenly-sized breasts that had started to sag due to her weight fluctuations couldn't live up to Hollywood standards (via Today).

Meanwhile, in an October 2006 Us Weekly interview, Reid shared that although she had approached a doctor to put in B-cup implants, he had gone ahead and used C-cup implants without her consent. To make matters even worse, her doctor appeared to have botched the surgery, since it had given her nipples a strange shape (via CBS News). Her ordeal didn't even end there, as she had a wardrobe malfunction at a birthday party in 2004 that gave cameras a look at her breasts. Although she had cried and pleaded with the photographers not to share the humiliating moment with the world, they did it anyway.

"I became known as having the ugliest breast in the world. It was all over these [websites]. Millions of them," Reid recalled on Access Hollywood (via Today). "I was already dealing with what it looked like. The last thing I wanted to happen was to have the whole world see it." Ultimately, the negative press surrounding the botched surgery and the wardrobe malfunction gravely affected her reputation. And, unfortunately, her experiences with botched plastic surgery didn't end there.

In her October 2006 interview with Us Weekly, Tara Reid shared that she had undergone a body contouring procedure to achieve six-pack abs. Unfortunately, she had to face the toll of another botched surgery. "My stomach became the most ripply, bulgy thing," Reid recalled (via CBS News). "I had a hernia, this huge bump next to my bellybutton. As a result, I couldn't wear a bikini. I lost a lot of work." 

Dr. Steve Svehlak, a plastic surgeon who had seen the results of the botched procedure, told Access Hollywood that it made her stomach look like a "cobblestone road" because of its highly uneven finish. The subsequent confidence loss from the badly done surgeries also impacted her romantic relationships. However, Reid was ultimately happy to report that a corrective procedure, which she had entrusted to a board-certified plastic surgeon, helped her regain her confidence. 

During a 2006 appearance on "The View," the "Sharkando" actor admitted that she had major regrets about her decision to get a breast augmentation, saying, "If I had to do it again, I never would have done it in the first place," (via ABC News). Thankfully, not all of Reid's plastic surgery procedures have left her with regrets. In an October 2024 Us Weekly interview, "The Big Lebowski" actor shared that she was thrilled with the veneers she had gotten to fix an accident from her childhood days. While Reid does look completely unrecognizable in throwback photos from the '90s due to her plastic surgery procedures, it seems she's living her most confident life.
