Lisa Rinna And Harry Hamlin's Relationship Is Stranger Than You Realized
Lisa Rinna and Harry Hamlin's odd marital dynamics seem to work perfectly for them. The "Harry Loves Lisa" stars tied the knot in 1997, welcomed two children in the following years, and endured all the ups and downs of life as a team. In a 2019 Us Weekly interview, Hamlin shared that independence was the key to their decades-long union, explaining, "We have a very functional relationship and we respect each other and listen to each other and admire each other and we let each other be. We're not helicopter husband and wife."
During a February 2026 appearance on the "Dinner's On Me" podcast, Rinna similarly said that "mutual respect" was at the core of their long-standing relationship. However, the reality TV star also didn't shy away from admitting that their marriage wasn't a fairytale romance, but instead something that required tremendous effort. As an example, Rinna went on to share that couples naturally drifted apart over time and had to make a conscious effort to find their way back to one another. And there's no doubt that Hamlin and Rinna have worked hard to make their marriage work.
Over the years, their relationship has stood tall in the face of infidelity rumors, major career changes, and a nasty feud with a blast from the past. What makes their relationship even more impressive is the fact that they manage to make it work despite being vastly different personalities. While some view their perseverance through marital obstacles as a testament to their commitment, others could argue that their struggles make for a pretty strange marriage.
Harry Hamlin was married when he became 'love-struck' with Lisa Rinna
During a March 2022 interview with People, Harry Hamlin admitted that he was "love-struck" by Lisa Rinna pretty much the moment he laid eyes on her in a restaurant in 1992. The sweetness of that admission is greatly dulled by the fact that the "Mad Men" star was having a meal with his wife Nicollette Sheridan at the time. Although Hamlin stressed that he didn't let his thoughts run amok because he was married, he also admitted: "I do recall being stricken by her beauty."
Although Rinna was also on a date that night, she couldn't help but internally fangirl after seeing a big name like Hamlin. Still, their conversation didn't extend beyond an introduction. Speaking on "The Jess Cagle Show" in December 2019, Hamlin shared that he was later reintroduced to his third wife while he was having dinner with her then-employer, the owner of a sunglasses store. At the time, he was fresh off of his split from Sheridan.
Hamlin and Rinna ignored how an instant spark in a relationship could be a major red flag, and started dating shortly afterward. As their relationship started getting more serious, the reality TV star faced a sticky situation. During a May 2020 appearance on "Watch What Happens Live," Rinna shared that in the initial years of their relationship, Hamlin was residing in a home he built with his first wife, Laura Johnson. While most people would be hesitant to move into a house with that much history, Rinna said, "'F*** it. I don't care. I'll live in your house!'"
Harry Hamlin has wanted to divorce Lisa Rinna on more than one occasion
Harry Hamlin initially didn't seem to know how to support a partner as they chase their dreams. During a 2015 appearance on "Oprah: Where Are They Now?" Lisa Rinna shared that she knew that her husband wouldn't be supportive of her joining the cast of "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" from the get-go. And her beliefs were proven true when she approached him with the exciting opportunity, and he immediately shot it down by saying, "Nope! I'll divorce you. If you do it, I'll divorce you."
In a December 2019 interview with the Daily Beast, Hamlin confirmed that he had responded to Rinna's career opportunity by saying, "I have my divorce lawyer on speed dial." The "Clash of the Titans" actor added, "I said to Lisa, 'You can't do this. Everybody who does that show gets divorced. It's a horrible, horrible thing, to do that show.'" While Rinna understandably didn't broach the subject again after that blatant rejection, she did pull some strings behind the scenes and got "RHONY" alum Bethenny Frankel to talk some sense into Hamlin. Rinna's plan worked, as the Skinnygirl founder convinced Hamlin that "RHOBH" could do wonders for Rinna's career.
Shockingly, that wasn't the only time that divorce was a possibility in the "L.A. Law" alum's marriage. During an April 2025 episode of the couple's "Let's Not Talk About The Husband" podcast, Hamlin admitted that they would have parted ways if Rinna hadn't undergone hormone replacement therapy to deal with her severe menopausal symptoms. In light of all these questionable admissions, Hamlin doesn't exactly sound like the most supportive partner.
Harry Hamlin was accused of cheating on Lisa Rinna
During one of the many heated arguments in Season 5 of "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills," cast member Kim Richards stoked the fires of rumors that Harry Hamlin had been unfaithful to Lisa Rinna. "Let's talk about the husband," Richards said during the argument to shade her co-star and her hubby. "Let's not talk about what you don't want out." While an irate Rinna urged Richards to keep her husband's name out of her mouth, Richards clapped back and said, "If you don't want for everybody to know, you better watch what you talk about me, or everybody will know."
Richards appeared to have gotten under Rinna's skin, as she threw water at Richards and tried to smash the glass afterward. The dramatic moment ultimately led many curious fans to take to X (formerly Twitter), and use with the hashtag #WhatDidHarryDo. To put an end to the speculation, Rinna told "Access Hollywood Live" that "Harry didn't do anything" (via Us Weekly). Further, she insisted that Richards' words had gotten a rise out of her because she knew that they would gravely damage her husband's reputation.
As the drama unfolded, a source informed RadarOnline that Hamlin had urged his wife to bow out of the show in wake of the fiasco. However, Rinna had reassured him that she wouldn't let anyone else on the show say anything that would hurt his reputation. According to the source, Hamlin wasn't all too pleased with the "Days of Our Lives" alum's decision to remain on the show, but he also didn't want to make her choose between him and her career.
They don't share any common ground whatsoever
During a February 2018 appearance on "Live With Kelly and Mark," Lisa Rinna made an eyebrow-raising confession about her marriage to Harry Hamlin, sharing, "We're so opposite. We have nothing in common, and I truly mean that. Like, zero." To make her case, the reality TV star pointed out that her interests lay in shopping while her husband's lay in complex topics like astrophysics. And we saw an example of how their differences affect their conversations during a May 2025 episode of the "Let's Not Talk About The Husband" podcast.
While Hamlin talked about the laws of attraction in physics, Rinna snored loudly and joked that she had dozed off. Then Rinna, one of the worst-dressed attendees at Paris Fashion Week 2026, proclaimed that her husband was just as disinterested in her love for fashion as she was in astrophysics. In a February 2022 People interview, Hamlin also admitted that their differences went beyond general interests, explaining that while he preferred to go out on a hike and experience camping in the real outdoors, his wife would rather unwind in a Four Seasons suite.
Meanwhile, in an interview for LaPalme magazine's Winter 2018 issue, Hamlin admitted that they had to put in extra work into their relationship because of their differences, "Listen, we put a lot of time in therapy and talking and reading books and trying to figure out how to create a foundation for a family" he said (via E! News). That admission does seem like a telltale sign that two people in a relationship are too different and that opposites don't always attract. However, the reality TV stars have maintained that their differences only make them stronger.
Lisa Rinna had a public feud with Harry Hamlin's ex-wife
In a February 2019 episode of the "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills," Lisa Rinna claimed that Harry Hamlin's second wife, Nicollette Sheridan, had cheated on him with musician Michael Bolton after attending one of his concerts. Rinna went on to thank the singer-songwriter for being the catalyst for her happy ending. Then, Sheridan shared an X post stating that Rinna's account was completely false. Hamlin then got involved in the messy drama, sharing an X post claiming that Sheridan had cheated on him with Bolton while he was processing his mother's death.
In her response post, Sheridan wrote off her ex-husband's denial as a means for him to "support [his] housewife's FAKE NEWS narrative." Ultimately, she believed that the only two people who were to blame for the downfall of their marriage were herself and Hamlin. Obviously, Rinna couldn't resist coming to her husband's defense, so she responded in a since-deleted post that Sheridan was "the gift that keeps on giving!" (via People).
Rinna also didn't mince words while addressing Sheridan in a since-deleted Instagram Story, writing, "I forgot to thank you also. Thank you for f***ing Michael Bolton and cheating on Harry while married. I thought I'd take the high road and not tweet this ... NAH," per People. When the drama came up during Rinna's June 2019 appearance on "Watch What Happens Live," she gave Sheridan the middle finger and told host Andy Cohen, "She probably needs a job." All in all, it's quite strange that Rinna not only aired her husband's past on TV, but also got into a public feud with his ex-wife.
