Thanks to a decades-long political career, multiple memoirs, many paid public appearances, and consulting work, Hillary and Bill Clinton have amassed $120 million, per Celebrity Net Worth. The world became acutely aware of the couple's fortune after learning that the former first lady was wearing a $12,495 Giorgio Armani tweed jacket on the 2016 presidential campaign trail, per the NY Post. It was reported that Hillary had spent around $200,000 on acquiring high-end clothes to wear while running for president.
Even decades earlier, Hillary was spotted with some opulent accessories. She carried a Judith Lieber clutch that was custom-made to resemble the Clinton family cat, Socks, when she attended an official dinner with Bill in 1994. According to Heritage Auctions, the clutch was a gift from the iconic designer and was being auctioned by its current owner for a whopping $4,125. Back in 2012, when Hillary was secretary of state, she got another luxurious gift — an estimated $500,000 worth of jewelry from the then-King of Saudi Arabia.
According to The Hill, the unbelievably expensive present consisted of "white gold jewelry with teardrop rubies and diamonds containing a necklace, a bracelet, earrings, and a ring." In the same year, Hillary also received an assortment of jewelry from the Queen of Brunei, estimated to be worth $58,000. It's worth noting that these gifts technically belong to the people of the United States and not the individual receiver. And if Hillary wanted to keep the bling after her term as secretary of state, she would have had to pay out of her own pocket. Still, the fact that she received them in the first place was a testament to her lavish life.
Hillary Clinton's glam squad apparently doesn't come cheap
In Hillary Clinton's 2017 memoir "What Happened," she confessed that she was envious of how male politicians could just walk into public appearances after simply showering and shaving. In contrast, Hillary made front-page news for going bare-faced, per ABC News. "I once calculated how many hours I spent having my hair and makeup done during the campaign," the former first lady wrote (via Women's Agenda). "It came to about 600 hours, or 25 days. I was so shocked, I checked the math twice."
All that time spent getting ready for public appearances cost a pretty penny. According to a 2024 Billboard report, a celebrity glam artist could charge between $1,000 and $2,000 for a day's work or between $300 to $800 for a few hours. For Hillary, those costs could have easily added up over her months-long campaign trail. However, it seems like she was determined to get the most bang for her buck. According to the NY Post, the former secretary of state had reportedly added a makeup artist from the HBO series "Veep" to her glam team.
Additionally, Hillary is among the many first ladies whose hair transformed right before our eyes. And that gorgeous transformation might not have happened had she not turned to the right people to care for her tresses. According to Page Six, in 2015 the Democrat had gotten an ultra-private $600 haircut at the exclusive John Barrett Salon, a luxury establishment located inside Bergdorf Goodman. Bill Clinton had also notably made headlines for getting a $200 haircut on Air Force One in 1993. Although initial media reports suggested that his haircut had caused heavy delays at LAX, they were later proven untrue.
Hillary and Bill Clinton have lived in some expensive homes
Speaking to Architectural Digest in May 2019, Hillary Clinton recalled the exact moment she fell in love with her home in Washington, D.C. "I had gone up to the third floor and looked out over the trees ... and I just felt like I was in old-time London or New York," she explained. "The gardens were just the most amazing that I had seen anywhere in my real estate tour." And so, she and Bill Clinton were willing to spend $2.85 million on the property in 2000 (via The New York Times) and drop an additional sum on renovating the outdated interiors.
The sprawling 5,152-square-foot property notably came with 4 bedrooms, 6.5 bathrooms, a pool, and a terrace. According to Realtor.com, the property's value had surged to over $7 million over the years. The former first couple also paid $1.7 million in 1999 for a home in Chappaqua, New York. The 3-story home boasted 5 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, a pool, and a 1.1-acre stretch of land where the family could enjoy nature.
However, sometimes the Clintons appear to require a break from all their regular luxuries. According to an August 2015 Page Six report, the Clintons had splashed out $100,000 on renting a 4-bedroom property in the Hamptons for a mere two weeks. Based on side-by-side pictures of Hillary Clinton, which show that she's aging like fine wine, it's safe to say that she knows all about how to keep her skin healthy while at the beach at her favorite vacation spot.
