The Worst-Dressed Celebs At The 2026 Oscars
Every year, awards season ends with a bang when the greatest film actors, directors, producers, and more gather for the Academy Awards. More commonly known as the Oscars, this year's ceremony took place on Sunday, March 15, at Hollywood's Dolby Theater. As always, big names walked the red carpet before the show with the hope of making a good impression with their wardrobe choices. It's just too bad that some stars didn't deliver and ultimately ended up grabbing our attention for all the wrong reasons.
This year, many attendees wore modest fashion, harkening back to classic Old Hollywood glamour, which is something the worst-dressed celebs at the 2025 Oscars could learn from. More specifically, the 2026 red carpet included a grand number of dresses that featured sparkles and subtle beaded details. Sheath silhouettes seemed to be all the rage, and many stars put together the perfect monochromatic outfit to boot. This made less-polished dress choices stick out like a sore thumb, leaving us with worst-dressed contenders like Kristen Wiig and Chloé Zhao, who unfortunately flopped in poorly tailored and styled garments.
Chloé Zhao dressed for a funeral instead of a major awards show
Oscar-winning director Chloé Zhao was overly theatrical with her choice of wardrobe this year. Zhao was entirely covered in thick, black leather that looked similar to a trash bag and felt too heavy for her frame. Oh, and she walked the carpet with a smile, which felt out of place amid her dark, depressing outfit. Perhaps the "Hamnet" director was mourning the now-defunct "Buffy: The Vampire Slayer" reboot she was attached to lead. Regardless, the ruffles on Zhao's skirt, the oversized sleeves, and the black veil hid the natural beauty too much for our taste.
Kristen Wiig's 2026 Oscars dress looked like an art project
Kristen Wiig still hasn't learned her lesson from 2020, when her Academy Awards ensemble made her one of the worst-dressed celebs in Oscars history. The "Masters of the Universe" actor clearly loves to wear unconventional gowns, but they sadly don't tend to flatter her figure or highlight her natural beauty. This busy dress included several contradicting textiles with its beaded scoop neck and diamond-patterned skirt. The fabric would've been more suitable on a piece of vintage furniture, but as a dress, it made Wiig look like a simple store mannequin.
Ariana Greenblatt needed a bit more polish at the 2026 Oscars
"Now You See Me: Now You Don't" actor Ariana Greenblatt is a style chameleon, but her Oscars dress could've used more refinement. Satin is a stunning material, but its delicacy makes any imperfection difficult to cover up. Greenblatt's ivory gown is the perfect example of this, as the neckline looked wrinkled and tattered. The floral detail on the bodice couldn't distract from the belted waist, which looked sloppy, either. We liked her tousled hairstyle, but it didn't match her outfit, leaving us stumped all around.
Misty Copeland didn't properly balance ballerina beauty with menswear
Ballerina Misty Copeland regularly uses her body to tell a story while dancing, but her outfit at the 2026 Oscars told two conflicting narratives. Copeland combined a suit jacket with a thin, floor-length skirt, attached by a tutu in the middle. The elements of this outfit were good separately but felt disjointed when paired together. A delicate dress in a dark color would've been a better compromise, or using outerwear as an accessory rather than the entire bodice would've felt less bulky on Copeland.
Felicity Jones looked frumpy in a yellow gown at the 2026 Oscars
Yellow isn't the easiest color to pull off, and "100 Nights of Hero" star Felicity Jones didn't do herself any favors by wearing her dress with an obvious lack of confidence. This gown simply looked like it was swallowing her whole. The unfitted chest, boxy belt, and wide skirt created an odd silhouette, and at the same time, the dress' design felt like too safe of a choice. The pearl detailing should've continued around the front and back of the garment, but as is, the gown looked as though it was wearing Jones rather than Jones wearing it.
Renate Reinsve bored in a basic red dress at the 2026 Oscars
Norwegian actor Renate Reinsve walked the red carpet as a nominee for her performance in "Sentimental Value," but she relied too heavily on minimalism with an underwhelming dress and barely any accessories. The silhouette of her red dress looked careless, falling on the floor from her waist as if no one could be bothered to tailor the garment. It's almost as if a long piece of cloth was randomly pinned behind her back before she was sent out to be photographed. Sadly, nothing about this dress was special, which caused Reinsve to fade into the background.
