Lauren Sánchez Bezos' Over-The-Top Dress At A 2020 Prime Video Event Felt Out Of Place

Even before taking her relationship with Amazon founder Jeff Bezos public in 2019, Lauren Sánchez Bezos was no stranger to the spotlight. Sánchez worked as a broadcast journalist in the entertainment and sports industries for many years, even winning an Emmy for her work, and hosted the first season of the iconic competition show "So You Think You Can Dance." However, given her husband's status as one of the richest men in the world, Sánchez catches a lot of heat for a variety of things — ranging from Amazon's adverse environmental impact to her controversial choice of dress. At a 2020 Amazon Prime Video event in India, she tried to channel Bollywood vibes in a long, over-the-top beaded gown, which was just as inappropriate as the super-short dress Lauren Sánchez Bezos would wear at a D.C. awards dinner a few years later.

Sánchez wore a daring black and red gown with a geometric print, which she made a little risqué with a plunging neckline, polka-dot mesh sleeves, and a thigh-high slit. The statement dress stood out for two reasons: For one, it clashed terribly with her husband's garish purple, navy, and white patterned suit jacket. Then, perhaps more glaringly, Sánchez was overdressed for the occasion. While the Mumbai event hosted many Bollywood stars, who are known for rocking beautiful fabrics and bold colors, Sánchez still stood out from the crowd for her overly gaudy outfit choice.

This isn't the first time that Lauren Sánchez Bezos has misunderstood a dress code

Unfortunately, the 2020 Prime Video event wasn't the last time that Lauren Sánchez Bezos completely misread the dress code. In fact, it will be difficult for Lauren Sánchez Bezos to ever live down the inappropriate outfit she wore to a 2024 White House dinner. The former news anchor wore a form-fitting gown with a lace bodice and scandalously low neckline to attend a state dinner in April 2024. While we can't deny that Sánchez's figure looked amazing in the dress, the outfit didn't fit the brief. The theme of the dinner was "celebration of spring" — dark red is definitely more of a fall-winter color in our eyes. Additionally, a skin-tight, ultra-sultry dress perhaps isn't the most appropriate to wear to an event hosting Fumio Kishida, then-prime minister of Japan, just as the sexy silhouette was out of place at the Prime Video event in 2020.

Even though Sánchez doesn't always understand the assignment with her risqué looks, the journalist has said that she is happy with the way she dresses. Sánchez revealed on "The View" in 2024 that she gets her unapologetic style from fellow Latin-American Hollywood divas. "I really look up to women like Eva Longoria, Salma Hayek, Jennifer Lopez, [and] Sofìa Vergara. They really embrace their culture when they dress, and so I think it's just in me and, you know, it's a little sexy," she said (via People).
