Tips & Tricks That Will Solve Some Of The MAGA Ladies' Biggest Makeup Missteps

When people hear the phrase "Republican makeup," they instantly know what it means — cakey foundation, heavily drawn brows, and overly smokey eyes. Filter-free pics of MAGA ladies highlight all their major beauty mistakes, and it doesn't look like they're going to fix them anytime soon. Folks like Kimberly Guilfoyle, whose beauty evolution went off the rails, can't seem to help but throw anything and everything on their faces, but as a makeup artist with over a decade of experience, I definitely think less is more.

After you get to a certain age, products just sit differently on the skin, and larger pores, fine lines, or hooded lids affect how makeup should be applied. For example, eyeliner smudges much more easily, and many MAGA women have been caught in 4K with unfortunate messes as a result of this ignorance. By making just a few adjustments — including ditching the smokey eyeliner look for a lighter, muted alternative — they wouldn't have to worry about being photographed up close, and their makeup missteps would become a thing of the past.

The MAGA ladies can fix their eyebrow blindness with a different product

Many of the right-wing political women are guilty of laying it on thick when it comes to their brows, with Lauren Boebert being one example of someone having undeniable eyebrow blindness. She, along with Karoline Leavitt and Kristi Noem, has a habit of overdrawing her brows and using colors that are way too dark. While those with brunette hair can get away with using chestnut shades, Leavitt's blond hair and fair skin make her heavy eyebrows even more conspicuous.

Looking at the MAGA ladies' blocky brows, it's apparent they're using pencils to fill them in. An eyebrow pencil is a great tool for going over sparse areas, especially if you have a light hand, but powder is typically more forgiving. It doesn't deposit as much product, and you can better control the application.

Dark-haired ladies like Guilfoyle and Noem should use a chocolate shade with just a hint of warmth, while blonds like Leavitt need a cool, ashy brown color. A stiff, angled brush should be used to first create the outline and then to fill in the rest of the brow. It's important to get under the hair as well, instead of solely focusing on the surface of the brows, for a 3D effect. Using a spoolie to blend and blur each brow is never a bad idea, because harsh edges are so 2015.

A foundation switchup will get rid of the MAGA ladies' cakey looks

Foundation is one of the most important things in your makeup kit. A smooth canvas will have your face looking polished, even if you don't put anything else on. The MAGA crew apparently knows this trick, but many of them have taken it too far.

Professional makeup artists are trained to apply foundation so that it's invisible to the naked eye. When you look at beauty ads, all you see is flawless skin without a hint of product. However, looking at pics of Melania Trump and her cohorts, you'll immediately notice cakey foundation. This may be a result of their application process. You really only need a drop for each area, but it looks like they use the whole bottle.

Matte foundation is particularly harsh on older skin, while dewy finishes are much more forgiving. BB and CC creams provide great coverage while correcting discolorations, so there's no need to pile it on. Areas needing extra correction can be addressed with concealer. To avoid the MAGA foundation effect, you can use a damp (not wet) sponge to apply your makeup, as it gently dilutes the product and allows it to diffuse on the skin. Once applied, only pat powder on shiny areas — not the whole face — as you don't want a flat finish.

The MAGA women should try brighter shades on their eyes

It seems that many of the MAGA women are firmly stuck in 2010 when heavily smoked-out eyes were popular, with Kimberly Guilfoyle and Melania Trump being two of the worse offenders. They often choose a grayish-brown shade in a matte finish with no other colors to give their eyes some depth, resulting in a flat and heavy look. The two also tend to use a blocky technique, with no apparent blending whatsoever.

Smokey eyes may be making a comeback, but the MAGA version is completely outdated. A softer, ombré approach with the shadow gradually fading toward the brows is much more flattering, and it opens up the eyes better. Instead of a harsh gray, Guilfoyle and co. should use warmer shades like beige and deep brown, with a bit of shimmery bronze on the center of their lids for some depth. Some champagne-colored highlighter on the inner lids would also brighten up the whole face. This softer approach would make these ladies appear a decade younger.

Republican women need to color-match their blush

The one thing many of the MAGA women have in common is poorly applied blush. If you can see where blush begins and ends, that means it's not blended enough. Karoline Leavitt is repeatedly guilty of this, and her blush placement makes it even more obvious. The color sits way too low on her face, which only drags her features down. She also chooses a shade that's overly dark, resulting in a streaky finish.

Depending on their skin tone, the MAGA ladies should veer more toward pink and peach blushes, with the color applied higher on the apples of their cheeks. Bronzer swept right underneath the tops of their cheekbones — but never past the midpoint of the face — will provide a nice contour.

I would advise the MAGA women to dab on a concentrated amount of liquid blush before foundation for a lit-within glow. They would end up with a gorgeous diffused finish that doesn't look like makeup but rather a natural flush. It's the perfect no-makeup makeup trick for just a hint of color instead of a streaky mess.
