Kate From Yellowstone Is Gorgeous In Real Life

If the name "Kate" from "Yellowstone" does not instantly ring a bell, don't go questioning your superfan status just yet. From her first appearance in Season 3 through Season 4, she was known simply as "Jamie's receptionist," the "AG's assistant," or most popularly, "Jamie's assistant." But despite how limited one would imagine this role would be, Kate, who is played by Maria Julian, managed to spark enough intrigue to gain attention.

There were fan theories that she secretly had it out for Jamie (Wes Bentley) because of how often she allowed Beth (Kelly Reilly) in without warning — which, to be fair, is debatable since very few people would want to cross Beth's volatile character. There were also theories that she could be a plant or have a tell-all book in the works, given how much she saw and how little she said.

Kate kept her relationship with Jamie so professional that we don't even know her last name (much like Jamie's former secretary/campaign manager on "Yellowstone," Christina, who is also stunning in real life). As a secretary, Kate dresses the part and is undoubtedly one of the stunners on the show. But even without the makeup, lights, and curated wardrobe, Kate from "Yellowstone" is gorgeous in real life.

Maria Julian's take on formal fashion is different from Kate's in Yellowstone

As Jamie's secretary on "Yellowstone," Kate is often seen in typical secretary wear; sharp blazers, sheath dresses, and the mandatory string of pearls. However, Maria Julian's real-life style is completely different, even in formal situations. On screen, Kate leans hard into the business-formal look, but Julian's take is softer and skews more business-casual. While she does still wear blazers, as seen in a photo she shared on Instagram in December 2021, sporting glasses, a gray blazer, and a maroon shirt, it's still a lot less stuffy than her "Yellowstone" character. For instance, a photo she shared on Facebook in August 2018 shows her in her businessy element.

She has on a patterned blue-and-white blouse peeking out beneath a black blazer, over a pair of fitted pants. Julian finished the look with a pair of Mary Janes with a kitten heel, which is an interesting pick. Power stilettos would have come across as performative, and flats would have looked too casual, but the heeled Mary Janes were formal enough to be taken seriously while still looking down-to-earth and natural.

Maria Julian looks gorgeous with or without makeup

Many of the leading ladies from "Yellowstone's" universe look gorgeous without makeup and Maria Julian is no exception. But while the no-makeup look comes up on occasion for most actors, this seems to be the norm for Julian. In fact, most of her social media posts show her with little or no makeup, and this isn't because she only posts at-home pics. In January 2020, Julian, who is also a producer, shared a photo of herself on a set in a gray sweatshirt. The photo shows impressively clear skin with barely any makeup besides a bit of eyeliner, gloss, and brow product.

Another picture from 2021 posted on Facebook was quite similar, even though it was shared at an audition for an undisclosed role. Not everyone can pull off not wearing any makeup, but Julian's features are perfect for it. Beyond having clear skin, she's got impressive bone structure and good facial symmetry to do all the heavy lifting. It's exactly the vibe the no-makeup makeup look goes for, and she achieves it naturally.

Maria Julian has stunning curly hair

On "Yellowstone," it's pretty obvious that Kate has textured hair, but it's controlled and styled-down to look formal and fit in with her role. In real life, however, one of the most noticeable things about Maria Julian is her stunning head of curls. They've got volume, length, and after styling, look absolutely beautiful. And like all curly girls, she admittedly struggles with frizz, as seen in the pic on the left, posted in January 2020. Five months after this post, she shared another Facebook post in June, which she hashtagged #haireemergency, about the struggles of her hair type. "Okay, I love that I have curly hair but right now it is more fuzzy than curly," the post read. "My curly haired friends, what do you use to tame those curls?"

Her followers were quick to share some curly hair tips, which mostly consisted of advice on the best order to apply hair care products for curly hair. When Julian shared another photo on Facebook during a 2024 trip, the change was noticeable. The frizz was reduced, and her hair had a reddish tint to it.

During her time on "Yellowstone," some fans seemed certain that Kate was meant for more, and even though the series is officially over, the 2026 "Dutton Ranch" spinoff just might be that opportunity. If the directors do plan to have Kate make an appearance, it might be time to have her show off her hair, which was probably the single most underutilized thing about her on-screen.
