Melissa Joan Hart's Perimenopausal Weight-Loss Journey Wasn't About The Scale
Since rising to fame as a teen in the '90s to becoming a mom of three kids and continuing to act as an adult, Melissa Joan Hart has undergone a complete transformation over the years. Part of this change has included weight loss, which the "Sabrina the Teenage Witch" star credits to a new full-body wellness routine that had nothing to do with numbers on a scale. Hart, who turned 50 on April 18, 2026, revealed that she wasn't focused on weight loss so much as becoming a healthier version of herself.
In February 2026, the "Clarissa Explains It All" star told People, "I actually feel stronger and better than I have in a really long time." Hart said she lost 18 pounds in 2025 as part of "a health journey" that wasn't about her weight. "I just wanted to feel better. It had nothing to do with losing weight," she told the outlet. One of the things to know about perimenopause is that it can make losing weight very difficult, so Hart had assumed she wouldn't be able to shed pounds very effectively.
As part of the actor's attempts to achieve whole-body health, Hart tried out intermittent fasting, cut out sugar, and stopped drinking alcohol. There have been several other female celebrities who quit drinking and now look absolutely radiant, and Hart has achieved the same result, though she revealed it wasn't too difficult for her. "I just don't even enjoy drinking. So why bother?" she admitted. "And in doing that, I lost a lot of weight and kind of feel great."
Melissa Joan Hart is refreshingly open about body image
Melissa Joan Hart has shared updates about her health journey on Instagram, including a bikini picture from March 8, 2026, that showed off her toned abs and arms as she posed on the beach. In another Instagram post a few weeks later, she did pushups and renegade rows with 15-pound weights in her dressing room — while wearing high heels! It's clear the actor is confident and glowing, and we love that for her.
This isn't the first time the Lifetime star has been open about the pressure to maintain a certain weight. She told Us Weekly in 2019, "That's the hard part about the business. As you get older, it gets harder — and then you have babies! Nobody wants to see you age or see your body change." She added that despite having a healthy mindset overall, she still struggles with self-esteem issues. "I have a really good body image," Hart told the outlet. "But I definitely have things I wish I could change and things I get down on myself about."
Hart has previously partnered with weight loss-centric companies SlimFast and Nutrisystem, and now she is promoting Midi Health, a virtual clinic for women in midlife. On April 15, 2026, she shared a throwback photo on Instagram of herself in the early days of her career, writing, "Flashback to way back when my hormones were crazy... and thanks to perimenopause they're crazy once again!" Hart revealed that she works with Midi Health "to help get the care I need." It truly does seem like she is focused on maintaining her overall health, rather than weight loss and crash diets — and her strategy has paid off.
