In the high-drama world of "Yellowstone," many characters are larger than life. And despite her limited screen time — appearing in flashbacks over only two episodes, way back in Season 1 — matriarch Evelyn Dutton doesn't disappoint. With a nuanced performance that is simultaneously well-intentioned and stern, actor Gretchen Mol paints Evelyn as a no-nonsense woman determined to arm her daughter, Beth Dutton, against the hardships of life as a female. This comes through in both her intense dialogue and her visual design.

In all her scenes, Evelyn keeps her hair simple and her cosmetics minimal. This is not only accurate for the character — why would a hard-working ranch wife get dolled up every day? — but an easy win for the production team, as the leading ladies of "Yellowstone" are universally stunning without makeup. As for costuming, Evelyn's wardrobe follows a similarly straightforward vein, featuring practical, durable clothes suited for life outdoors. In real life, Mol's style shows a lot more variety than that of her on-screen persona.

With great sartorial range to go with her acting chops, Mol is, at turns, more chic and more charming than Evelyn. Rather than the hardened and efficient aesthetic we're used to seeing in her "Yellowstone" 'fits, Mol's personal closet overflows with pieces that run the gamut from sleek, black-tie gowns to free-spirited day dresses — neither of which would seem quite at home on Evelyn Dutton.

Here in the real world, actor Gretchen Mol isn't just stylish, she's an active fashionista — a creative luxury that contrasts vividly against Evelyn Dutton's pragmatism in "Yellowstone." Mol has even founded her own fashion line, Gretchen M. New York, which bills itself on Instagram as a vintage-inspired brand with "timeless dresses for life in character." As the performer wrote on her own Instagram account in May 2026, while modeling some of the brand's looks, "I've always loved playing around with different silhouettes. How clothes can transport you into your own fantasy world."

With this avid interest in couture, it's not a surprise that Mol likes taking risks on the red carpet, often playing with tailoring and accessories to curate a unique look. For instance, she wore a memorable ensemble while attending the premiere of "Millers in Marriage" at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival.
