Garcelle Beauvais was one of the it-girls of the '90s, who made it big with her role in the sitcom "The Jamie Foxx Show," and the series "Models Inc." Her career was thriving when she married talent agent Mike Nilon in 2001, with whom she went on to have twins Jax and Jaid in 2007. Unfortunately, Beauvais learned that Nilon had been having an affair in 2010, and knew it was time to dump the person who had cheated on her. "It's a hard decision to get a divorce when you're in your 40s. Nobody signs up for that. That's not something that was something that I wanted to do, but I had to do it because I had to pick me," the actor stated at the People Inc. Black Affinity Group's Legacy Chat, per People.
After working through the grieving process of a divorce, Beauvais gained a new set of fans when she joined "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" in Season 10, and made history at the same time. "As the first African American Housewife in the Beverly Hills franchise, I am honored and humbled by this awesome opportunity to exemplify the fact that Black Girl Magic lives and thrives in every zip code!" she told Bravo. The actor used the series to showcase her life as a single mom raising two teens, and fans saw her go from actor to author of a memoir, and then an executive producer for the very first time.
Garcelle Beauvais' career hit new heights after becoming a Real Housewife
Many reality stars use their platforms to further their careers, and Garcelle Beauvais made sure to take every advantage of hers. In 2022, she published her memoir, "Love Me as I Am," in which she detailed her life as a young girl from Haiti and becoming a successful model in her teens. Beauvais also opened up about her father's lack of presence from a young age, which she admitted had a huge impact on her relationships. "I really think that has really shaped me in the men that I've chosen ... No one I know has a perfect life and that definitely includes me," she shared with Bossip.
Following the success of her memoir, Beauvais executive-produced and starred in the 2023 Lifetime movie "Black Girl Missing." It was her first time taking such a huge lead on a project, and she told TV Insider, "I'm proud of being an executive producer — it's different! When I'm an actor, I just show up, I know my stuff, and I'm prepared. But this, I was involved in casting and hiring the director and where we were shooting. It was really cool to have that hat and see it in a different way." Although Beauvais is an industry bigwig, she still hasn't forgotten her modeling roots and shared an Instagram reel of her walking the runway for Jovana Louis during New York Fashion Week in February 2026, proving to be a celebrity who had a stunning post-breakup style transformation. A true multi-hyphenate, there doesn't seem to be anything Beauvais can't do as a fierce, single woman.
