Rosie O'Donnell Has Had An Effortless Gray Hair Transformation
Going gray is inevitable for many. You can fight it with multiple trips to the salon or simply embrace the aging process, as Rosie O'Donnell has done. The "A League of Their Own" star has been rocking her silver strands for years, and the shift has been so gradual that it has hardly been noticeable. Pics of O'Donnell from 2017 show some silver roots blending into her brown strands, one of the best gray hair trends for older women.
As it turns out, O'Donnell was purposely letting her grays grow out for her role as Tutu on Frankie Shaw's "SMILF." In 2019, she revealed on the "Today" show that Shaw wanted the character, a South Boston grandmother, to have a gray look. However, it turned out to be a challenge. "Frankie said, 'Can you grow your gray out? And, I thought, 'How hard could it be?'" O'Donnell told the hosts. She then quipped, "It takes years!" She ended up having to dye her hair gray, which got a thumbs down from her kids for making her look older. Funnily enough, it seems the comedian never looked back as she's now one of the celebs who proudly show their gray hair. Her stance on aging gracefully with a cosmetic tweak is quite refreshing for a Hollywood star.
Rosie O'Donnell kept her grays but enhanced other features
While there are plenty of celebs who regretted their face tune-ups, Rosie O'Donnell is not one of them. On a May 2026 Substack post, she revealed a recent facelift, which she was hesitant about at first because her 13-year-old child, Clay, was against it. After months of reflection, O'Donnell decided to go for it because it sent a message that she was free to make changes to her body, which is what feminism is all about. "I want them to grow up in a world where they don't feel like they have to change but also know they can, if they want to, without losing moral standing in their own life," she wrote.
As with her gradual change to gray hair, O'Donnell's facelift was so conservatively done that no one would have noticed if she hadn't shared it with the world. She told E! News the reason for her honesty. "Authenticity is the goal in these days and times. And I think all that matters is truth and love, and so I wanted to be truthful and say all the complicated emotions I had about it," she shared in June. In fact, the changes were so perfectly executed that Clay hadn't even noticed. Although O'Donnell said the procedure cost her as much as a car, we're certain it was worth every penny.
