Menopause Impacted Shania Twain's Body Image In The Most Unexpected Way

Shania Twain has always been frank about her body image. The country singer opened up about experiencing the negative effects of menopause before she was able to fully embrace it. While some older women experience changes in their skin during menopause, the "I'm Gonna Getcha Good" singer revealed to The Times in June 2026 that she gained weight. This put intense pressure on her to lose those new pounds. "I was doing very unhealthy things. And I was working my body more than I was feeding it, to keep up with the strain," Twain admitted. An onstage in jury finally opened her eyes to the truth: diet culture harms our body image through more tactics than we think. Twain decided to start loving herself more instead. "Menopause has been very good for me because I've learnt that some things you cannot control," the 60-year-old stated.

In 2025, Twain told Us Weekly that she grew up feeling uncomfortable in her own skin, and shared, "As a female, throughout my youth, [I was] touched inappropriately so many times [and] I was in abusive situations where you hate being a woman. I hated being a girl." That changed when she started performing and trying on feminine clothes. "When I wrote 'Man, I Feel Like a Woman!' it was an absolute celebration [of that]. And I felt empowered behind the camera," the multi-Grammy winner declared. Twain certainly exudes confidence while in the spotlight, and even after experiencing menopause, she's not afraid to show off her body more than ever.

Shania Twain bravely faced her fear of baring it all

Shania Twain wowed everyone when she posed nude while artfully covering parts of her body for her latest album, "Queen of Me," but this brave feat wasn't easy at first. "I don't really love my body. I don't love looking at myself in the mirror with the lights on," she told Hoda Kotb on the "Today" show in January 2023. Twain continued, "I said, 'I'm going to face that fear. I'm going to go into that photo shoot, I'm going to put fashion aside.'" The singer-songwriter called the moment "empowering," and pushed aside any doubts and insecurities she had. Twain's best hair looks prove she's never afraid to have fun, and going sans clothes for her album's artwork adds to her daring streak, further making her one of our fave country queens.

Ahead of her "Queen of Me" world tour, in September 2023, Twain shared with the New York Post, "Menopause taught me to quickly say, 'You know, it may only get worse. So just love yourself now. Just get over your insecurities — they're standing in your way. And fear is standing in your way.' I always sing about being fearless and all of that." She added, "But I'm not living it the way I'm writing it. And I want to live the way I write." We're happy to see Twain thrive and live her life as unapologetically as she sings. It's beautiful to see a talented woman find the silver linings when it comes to the changes in her body.
