Remember Iconic '60s Model Veruschka? Here's What She Looked Like Years After Her Peak Fame

Years after dominating the fashion industry in the '60s, German model Veruschka proved that she's just as iconic and graceful now as she was then. Born Vera Gottliebe Anna Gräfin von Lehndorff-Steinort, the star made a resurgence in the late 2010s, attending the "Nobody Wants the Night" premiere during the 65th Berlinale International Film Festival in Berlin, Germany and later posing for Acne Studios' Resort 2018 collection. Veruschka's piercing blue eyes transcend time, and her tall slim frame remains a testament to beauty standards at the peak of her fame.

At the premiere, Veruschka posed on the red carpet with an ankle length silver metallic shawl draped across her shoulder and a complementary statement headpiece with bejeweled fringes. As far as glam, the icon wore her signature nude lip and dark eyeliner, as she was seen wearing in many of her photoshoots throughout the '60s. For her Acne Studios debut, the model sported quirkier layered ensembles and an edgy slicked back hairstyle, departing from the voluminous 'dos she was known to wear throughout her career. Still, her poses and expressions serve as a reminder of the impact she had on the fashion world, which was something she never expected.

The same features that made Veruschka a renowned supermodel were once rejected

Although Veruschka is known today for her stature and beauty, the supermodel recalled the dark side of modeling, which for her meant being rejected early in her career for her contrasting features. In 2014, Veruschka told Vanity Fair, "I had a hard time. I was too tall, too baby-faced, and they just didn't think it worked together. [Photographer Johnny Moncada] was the first person to see something differently." Despite a challenging start, Veruschka's modeling career helped her better cope with her father's tragic execution after he joined the resistance against Adolf Hitler. "I saw modeling as a way of getting out of my dreary life," she recalled. "It was a fantasy that had nothing to do with the reality I had dealt with. Even though I was happier, I still couldn't let that pain go."

Today, the supermodel, whose outfits from the '60s helped define the era's style, spends her time painting and taking care of her cats at her Berlin residence.
