Madonna's Daughter Lourdes Leon Has Transformed Over The Years

Born in 1996, Lourdes Leon is Madonna's eldest child. Her father, Carlos Leon, is a Cuban-American personal trainer and actor who met the "Like a Virgin" singer while she was running in Central Park in New York City. Lourdes has been a noticeable face in Hollywood since she was born, thanks to being the daughter of one of the world's biggest pop music icons of the 1980s. She spent her younger years being followed by paparazzi and was photographed wearing matching outfits with her mom. 

While Lourdes is among the child stars who grew up to be gorgeous, she started dipping her toes into the fashion waters at an early age. She even collaborated with her mother on designing their "Material Girl" collection for Macy's in 2010. In recent years, she has become a regular face on red carpets, proving her relentless work ethic by building a career based on her passions. "I want to feel like I deserve things and not just like I've been given things," Lourdes told The Cut in 2022. "And, yes, there's undeniable privilege that I'd be stupid to not realize. As a child, Lourdes Leon was the spitting image of her mother, at least in the wardrobe department. While the mother-daughter duo had contrasting physical features, particularly Madonna's blond hair and blue-green eyes, compared to Leon's brunette locks and hazel eyes, the pair often wore matching outfits. In 2004, when Leon was just eight years old, Madonna took her to the park wearing matching flared jeans. Considering bootcut jeans were a major early-aughts trend, it's safe to say Leon was already earning a premature reputation as a fashion enthusiast.

Madonna and Leon's appearances weren't limited to coordinated ensembles, and on another occasion in 2005, the duo stepped out wearing another fashionable look. While their leather boots blended seamlessly, Leon topped hers with an adorable denim set, featuring an afghan-style jean jacket and a silver chain belt.

While the pair have continued to make headlines for their iconic outfits, Leon revealed that her mom may have dressed her like a celebrity, but she was raised to value independence from a young age. "Obviously, I grew up with extreme privilege. There's no denying that. But I think my mom saw all these other kids of famous people, and she was like, 'My kids are not going to be like this,'" she told Interview in 2021.

Lourdes Leon welcomed a noticeably darker style toward the mid-2000s. Long gone was the little girl wearing matching outfits with her mom; as a teenager, Leon started to embrace the indie sleaze aesthetic. By adopting the era's defining style, Leon was certainly one of the celebrity kids with the potential to be fashion icons. While indie sleaze was incredibly popular among supermodels and actors, Leon started to adopt the trend later on in the decade. Between 2009 and 2010, Leon wore darker looks consisting of distressed tights, leather jackets, and stacked chain necklaces.

In 2010, Leon arrived at the launch of Macy's "Material Girl" collection wearing distressed striped tights and a studded leather jacket. She topped her look with a red, gray, and blue plaid shirt, leather boots, and gray knee-high socks scrunched down to enhance her effortless attitude. Leon accessorized with studded bracelets, and her trendy ensemble was completed with thick black eyeliner. Posing with her arm around her mom, she also drew attention to her on-trend black nail polish.

Though Leon fully embraced the bold style of her look, Madonna wore a similar style that night, and their matching outfits suggested that, while Leon had started to experiment with her identity, her wardrobe was still heavily influenced by her mom.

Lourdes Leon started turning heads as an adult. In 2016, at age 19, she even made headlines for her mature appearance during a family holiday to Havana, Cuba. Leon was clearly blowing off some steam when she was spotted celebrating Madonna's birthday alongside her fling at the time, actor Timothée Chalamet. In a 2021 interview with Vanity Fair, Leon confessed that the actor was her first love. "I respect him a lot, we were a little item," she said.

Leon arrived at the party wearing an outfit that suggested she had finally discovered her own sense of personal style. She was a musical theatre student at the University of Michigan at the time, and she had her hair styled in a simple updo and wore a subtle white tube top. Leon topped her look with statement accessories, including a bold pair of encrusted hoop earrings and several gold bangles. In recent years, Lourdes Leon has really made a name for herself. She walked the runway for Versace and appeared on the cover of Vogue alongside other young models in 2021. In 2022, when she was 25 years old, she made her Paris Fashion Week debut by closing the Marine Serre runway show. In 2023, Leon, who goes by the stage name "Lolahol," took her single "Lock&Key" international and performed at Spain's Brava Madrid festival. That year, she also modeled in a campaign for cosmetics brand Make Up For Ever and stripped down for an NSFW campaign for Dion Lee. Photos from the daring photoshoot posted on Instagram showed Leon posing wearing nothing but thigh-high black boots and purses that concealed her body.

Leon has become a familiar face on the runway, and has caused quite a stir with her risqué outfits at fashion shows throughout the years. It's no secret that Madonna's wardrobe proves older women can have so much fashion fun, and like her mom, Leon made a statement with a daring look at Paris Fashion Week in 2026. Just on the cusp of turning 30, she exuded confidence in a completely sheer dress. The brown maxi dress featured dainty cable knit detailing that made no effort to conceal her body, and Leon topped it off with a cropped gray trench coat. Black underwear, heels, and a handbag completed her look.
