A lob, otherwise known as a long bob, describes a mid-length haircut that falls somewhere between the chin and shoulders. As of 2026, lobs have become a popular low-maintenance hairstyle and celebrities, including the likes of supermodels Hailey Bieber and Kendall Jenner, have been donning them on red carpets. "Very short cuts can be unforgiving. They require precision and don't hide much," Louise O'Connor, founder of Louise O'Connor Salon, exclusively told Glam in July 2026. O'Connor went on to explain that lobs are the perfect medium, as longer hairstyles can also take away from the beauty of gray hair. "Very long hair can pull the face down and read as trying too hard past a certain age," she added.

Unlike shorter bobs, lobs also make for an extremely versatile haircut as they are long enough to be brushed and clipped into a range of styles. "Mid-length hits the sweet spot — soft around the face ... with plenty of options but not a lot of upkeep," O'Connor said. According to the hair expert, lobs best complement gray hair when it is healthy, since the cut's natural swishing movement can enhance shine and make the hair look lively.

Voluminous blowouts were a defining trend that took social media by storm in 2021. Unlike most fads that became popular during the "stay-at-home" era, as of 2026, voluminous blowouts have stayed in style. Inspired by supermodels in the '90s, there's no doubt that the hairstyling trend can make gray hair look its best. Thanks to a growing range of styling techniques that have become available in recent years, including heat-free alternatives such as hair wraps and sock curls, the bouncy blowout has become an affordable hairstyle that adds volume, movement, and a sophisticated, glamorous finish. 

"I love long hair on women over 60 that has movement and softness," expert stylist Rogerio Cavalcante, founder of Brazil Edition and The Second Floor Salon, exclusively told Glam in June 2026. "The goal isn't looking younger, but looking fresh and effortless," Cavalcante explained. Voluminous blowouts are great for women with gray hair in particular, as silver strands can often feel brittle and dry. "As hair naturally changes with age, softer shapes become more flattering. Layers create movement, so hair doesn't feel heavy," Cavalcante added. The long style also helps prove women can be proud of their grays without being pressured to cut their silver locks into that all-too-familiar pixie cut — a style often associated with older women.

Adding curtain bangs or a subtle side part to any hairdo can help gray locks look their best. According to Louise O'Connor, "A soft side part and curtain bangs is another favorite." Known as one of 2026's biggest hair trends and once a favorite from the 2000s, side parts have made a major comeback, and they are a versatile hairstyle that can be arranged to suit any occasion.

Like the side part, curtain bangs, which describe a longer fringe split into a middle parting, also returned as a hairstyle in 2026. Despite being subtle, both hairstyles are low-maintenance and versatile features that can add fashionable elements to any look. "It can be customized endlessly while staying fashionable, without a lot of maintenance," O'Connor added. As for the styling process, O'Connor emphasized that there are plenty of heat-protectant mistakes that could be damaging your hair, and it's best to take precautions when using heated hair tools.

Hairstylist Leslie Drummond also told Good Housekeeping that women can enhance their gray hair by adding soft highlights to their bangs or parting. "If you lack tonality in your gray, embrace and enhance your grays by lightening pieces around the face to give you extra dimension," Drummond said.
